Hey there, just joined this forum and I'm not going to lie to you it is partially because I was spending so much time on the forum anyway I might as well be able to ask a question or two myself I figured. So Here it is, I need major help with a C100F Conion Boombox that my neighbor has given me as part challenge, part business deal. I had previously fixed it by replacing a blown fuse and tackling the god awful cassette tape engaged-power button malfunction where by some genius the power button will not turn off the box and you can only unplug it from the wall or power cord. The solution I found with help from this very forum(Thanks to GuSG http://REPLACEMENT ERROR/topic...ch-belts-on-a-conion). Turns out The cassette player was stuck in the engaged position and the belts were broken and would not let it release. After removing the pieces (and intact larger belt!), I put the cassette deck carefully in place and put the stereo back together.

Now however, I have a different problem entirely. It appears now that when we are using the two rear phono(Red and white) ports on the back of the stereo, and then turn it to stereo mode the left speaker appears to go very quiet or even off, but in mono the balance seems to be equal among both speakers. I know very little about stereos by the way, I work mostly with computers and mobile devices, but I've loved getting into this thing and I would really hate to leave it mangled like this. Any help would be appreciated and I'll put up pictures and whatever is needed to give reference. I would also be especially grateful if anyone could post or tell me where to find a manual for the Conion C100F, since I haven't been able to find one anywhere. While searching I discovered that this one is apparently a C100FF, due to the fact that it can switch from 120V to 240V plug through a switch on the back. I don't know that it makes much of a difference but I thought I should mention it just incase.

hi there computer, you could start by cleaning the MODE/FM MUTE switch, if thats the one that is giving you the problem, usually that switch crackles everytime you go to stereo wide, hope it helps.

This issue is MOST LIEKLY coming from the Phono/Line In switch which is located next to the phono inputs. Work that a few times after spraying it with some contact cleaner. It might even work without cpntact cleaner...just go for it. But I am 99% sure that is causing the problem.

Wow, thank you guys for the great quick responses! I will try cleaning the switch some and working it back and forth, hopefully that solves everything. I'll let you know what happens once that is taken care of.

So after getting some contact cleaner and spraying it liberally all over phono/aux, and MODE/FM.MUTE switches and it does not seem to have done much, although there seems to be less static, the stereo is definately only using one speaker when it is switched into Stereo Mode, but both speakers work just fine in Mono. I'll attach a video to show what is going on when it plays. In the video I turn the balance all the way to one side to see if any sound is coming out of the right speaker, but nothing plays, and then in Wide mode the right speaker seems to work slightly, but not equal to its companion.

Did you work the switches a few times after spraying?

If this really does not solve the problem, I would check for a loose solder joint at the AUX hookups.

BTW - it is normal that the other speaker plays in stereo wide...the signal from the one side gets slightly pulled to the other one and vice versa creating a wide effect.

BTW - can't believe I did not think of that one - spray the function switch too and try fiddling with it. That may do the trick as there is absolutely no input coming through from the left channel.

Thank you! after spraying the function dial and more on the phono/aux switch and relentlessly switching it back and forth the speakers finally seem to be working as intended. I have noticed though that the right speaker is definitely more crackly and not quite as good as the left, which may mean I need new speakers anyway, anything after about 65% volume on stereo is distorted by static. nice work computergu, i think the speakers are just fine, just need to use it more often and keep working those switches.
