There has been quite a few DIY projects posted recently, so why not have a featured sub section dedicated to home brew boomboxes and mods? Post them if you got them.

very well done -

except the 4 AAs ( 6 volt ) seem to be the weak point in both power and

longevity- unless it has other power options ?

That's pretty intense, the tweeters look like a factory install, nice.

themightyrepairer - 2013-08-22 03:51

thanks Retro.. was a pain in the azz finding tweeters that small.. due to the roundness of the case regular speakers wouldn't fit.. I can honestly hear the difference immediately after firing it up.. the Kaboom really needed these..

Who can forget this amazing DIY project?

hi i have a quick question for someone.

I want to build a portable music system i.e a "boom box". im after retrieving speakers from a hifi system. but i dont know what amp to get. the speakers are 2 x 80 watt  3 ohm, and 2 x 170 watt 6 ohm subwoofers.. what kind of amp can i use?

some help would be greatly appreciated..

vintage.man - 2014-04-30 14:03

Try a car amp. Runs DC for battery power. And can drop too those ohms. You
can even take the amp board out of its case and use it like that.

arranm88 - 2014-04-30 14:19

nice one.

but can i run the subs off the car amp aswell? and will the impedances match?

vintage.man - 2014-04-30 14:49

It should hold up. Car amps can drop to 2 see ohms.

arranm88 - 2014-04-30 14:58

cool i have car stereo lying around would that do or would i have to get a seperate car amp? also if i connect the subs in parallel it will reduce the impedance to 3 ohms. is this how i should do it.. thanks for your help.

vintage.man - 2014-04-30 15:50

A cheap separate car amp. Say 40 watts.

arranm88 - 2014-04-30 16:01

but the subs are 340 watts combined? will a 40 watt amp do the job?

vintage.man - 2014-04-30 16:20

That's a max rating on the subs. You building a box or home theater? Lol.
If the box is big enough you can use 2 amps. One for mains. And 1 for the
sub section.

I have a important question

Could it be done like that you install some small LCD in the cassette door window then guide the wires from the display to the mp3 player that could be hidden Inside the boombox. That would be easier to use both the mp3 and cassette.By the way you wrecked a nice jvc rc-m70 :-( I wouldn't do that with any of my boombox

hardmen - 2016-04-23 03:30

Two of my wooden custom builts.

Cheers.
