Hey Andy, its usually called something like the VR1 (variable resistor) and will be located on the tuner PCB section. I don't have the manual I'm afraid so can;t tell you precisely but you should be able to spot it.

The looks something like this and you can use a small flat head screwdriver to adjust:

They usually require the slightest of touches to make it lock on again.

Hope you sort it mate I know how much you like the 8600

I think the VR your speaking of is only for stereo capturing and will not help with the actual tuning. You may want to double check that the antenna is making good contact first and no broken solder joints. Also if your also having issues with AM then there could be other issues within tuner.

thanks for all the replies guys, dave, azz, lee and bill, not sure about taking her apart now lee after your valuable advice as ive had problems getting hitachi deck doors back together again correctly in the pastand my biggest fear is ruining this one, bill the fuzziness is present on all wavebands,so could be something more-i think after careful consideration ill just look for a local tech who can do this for me,im not prepared to screw this one uptrouble is finding someone local who is trustworthy and woulnt make it worse than it is!

I agree, tuners are the hardest to repair because there are to many adjustments. Taking it to a tech is the best bet. Good luck!!!
