M90 Two technical questions

thebaron - 2013-11-30 01:24

Going to start to give my M90 a clean up today, I would like to clean the chrome cones in the speakers as they are dusty, can I do this from the front? these speaker covers for sale got me thinking they might come off from the front as they appear to be held on by the chrome trims?

Also only other thing on mine is the backing on the radio where it tunes looks a bit distorted/bubbled in places similar to this one, is it typical?  and is there a fix for it, if so how involved is it?.

Thebaron, to get to the speakers you have to open the radio, and the bubbles in the tuner plate is normal, .is an illusion

hi there ,  you can not get at the speakers from the front you need to remove the back and chassis to get to them ,  as for the face plate i have had a few here and some are distorted and some were not .

Most of the time I clean speakers with compressed air. They will clean up a lot most of the time. It depends on the type of filth but it's often a big improvement.

But take care of two things. Don't hold it to close to the speaker, you could dent the dustcap in theory. And be sure there is no moist or oil comming out of the air gun. Especially with oil it looks quit nasty afterwards and you end up opening the box after all.

i recommend taking out the speakers to clean them properly on the m90 as they should clean up nice and blue if there not faded...quite a lot of work involved to get to the speakers as all the guts need to be taken out and there's a lot of connections that need to be unclipped, make sure you label them to be sure there all going back to the right place!

I just did the easy one, and thought I doubt if my luck would hold out removing all the guts on the other side to get at the other one. If you go taking all those connectors off and they come off OK it's fine, but if one pulls the other side out the solder (that I have had happen to me on another one of mine) it is a right pain to fix. They are a nice Blue colour so cleaned the one speaker by hand that I could get at, and will maybe try a bit of compressed air to get the dust off the other one. Just don't think I would ever forgive myself if I took it apart 100% working and broke it in the cleaning process. If it does ever need to come to bits I will do it then.
