Sharp GF9000 speaker replacement
northerner - 2013-12-05 07:08
So I've got a new Sharp GF9000 on its way to me (well actually its sitting in my sisters house way down south until we meet up at Christmas ) and I know that one of the woofers has a huge tear in it so I'm gonna replace them both.
I've been browsing the forum and the web for a while trying to find what i reckon would be a good replacement but my lack of knowledge of speaker stuff (I'm no audiophile) is making it tricky and I'm going slightly crosseyed...I know several others have replaced them on the 9000 and wondered what people used (that is available in the UK).
They seem to be 8 inch 3.2ohm so I've been looking for 4 ohm ones but seem to be finding mostly subwoofer ones. I think someone said on a thread that 8 ohm ones would be fine but they wouldn't be as loud...anyone know how much volume would be lost?...if its not significant then I can widen the search.
Cheers!

I used m90 speakers once si...i wouldn't use 8 ohm in the 9000 as the amp is to weedy....not sure which ones to sugest mate...good luck
andy boombox ended up with that box....he said they sounded better with the origionals....ofcorse he was talking rubbish haha.....bit like my spelling

I put 4 Full range Kenwood car speakers, 2nd hand from ebay in my discolite and was blown away with the improvement in sound. Car speakers are not designed for loud outdoor use but they sound brilliant for the money indoors
if they can make a discolite sound half decent think what they'll do for your gf9000

haha I should have guessed, I remember how unimpressed by yours you were. I'm drawn to the flashing lights, it's like the same urge that draws me to the fruity in the pub

I would transplant the old chrome dust caps to the new driver just for aesthetics.

They have a reasonable sensitivity of 93dB so thats a good start. I would be very interested in how well these work out for you Si. What is the power output rating of the GF-9000?

Description says those speakers are mid bass with frequency Range 55 - 8kHz, but you need FULL RANGE speakers.

Well, i forgot GF-9000 has proper paper cone tweeters, not piezo ones, so, in this case these mid bass speakers will fit.

for me si the originals in the 9000 if the machine hasnt been thrashed all its life sound fantastic.but,i know youre awesome skills at modding my brother so im sure the end result will be spot on,whatever speakers you go for-and congrats on scoring another 9000
nickfish - 2014-07-21 08:00
What did Si do with his 9000 then?
What speakers did he choose?
