I refurbished that box ( i cleaned everybory parts )

WOW ! now that is giving it a good clean

that must of taken time and been a nightmare in the fear of snapping/braking any parts

nice work there. thats how i clean 95% of my boxes. the main thing is make sure there are no extra parts then your all good

The next stage is to repaint the outline and my repair of the tape cassettes which turn far too fast

You've got a nice boombox and I like seeing photos of boombox internals and repairs in progress.

Nice looking, but unfortunately fitted with that dreadful cheap and unreliable mechanics.

Probably true, but has alot of style, and if you wanted all out sound and/or quality.. I don't think you'd turn to a portable unit for it... my .02.....

Never in a Million Years, would I have been able to do that!!! Hell, I get frustrated just doing Jigsaw Puzzles!!!

I think 2 X 20 W minimum but i'm not sure because i don't have a brand specific manual .
That's Bbox pumpin' and the sound is very good .

I don't want to argue with anyone who is impressed by this BoomBox but, even though I've said that it is impressive in looks, by all means, it never can stand on a par with the real BomBoxes like Sharps GF9x9x or equivalents from Sanyo, Panasonic, etc. As it can be seen from the photos MKF kindly posted, the internal amplifier (that little silver box is it's radiator)can't deliver whatsoever some real 2x20W sinus (RMS). Nevertheless nice job MKF on cleaning and refurbish this Box which, of course is a good piece for any collection but unfortunately will never be among the "Holly Grails" of Ghetto Blasters. Cheers.

For sure , that bbox not comparable to japanese model .
But i think is collectable too like sanyo panasonic sharp ....because that's a old original bbox and it's a part of the story of the boombox whether it's of magnificent or average manufacturing.
The fact that it's less well made does not question the fact of be collected .

Another great benefit to living in Europe- You have the ability to come across all the really good stuff that was not destined for US markets, like the above radio!

Shortwave and an EQ is a good way to go. Also, I have to commend you on taking it apart and putting it back together without any issues! Whenever I try doing this, something gets messed up and I end up having more leftover screws than what I started with (?)

Personally, these boxes aren't really my style and I'd prefer an all-business look with analog meters anyday over boxes with flashy, glitzy, bling-bling, blinky lights, colors of the rainbow and plastic chrome. I'm sure they are made with cheap thin plastic shells, inferior mechanics and such but hey, to each, his own. In fact, as collectible as the Helix and Conions are, I just can't bring myself to get one -- not my style.

Nevertheless, the heatsink depicted by MKF looks rather typical to me of many small/medium boxes, is fairly thick and sized with sufficient mass and probably provides sufficient heat dissapating ability for the amps that are installed. In fact, the highly regarded Sanyo M9994 has tremendous power for it's size, drives 2 ohms speakers (among the lowest I've seen) and does this with heatsinks no bigger than the one shown on this box. I'm not saying that it's a recipe for long lasting output performance, especially since I've replaced a fair number of blown amp outputs on the M9994. But if you don't abuse them, is probably fine. Just my 2 cents.

I totally agree with you Stormin. That kind of bbox is very nice to put on a shelf and look at it's flashy appearance (for who likes that). It's internal construction, unfortunately, doesn't promise a long and happy high quality audition. Anyway, it's well known that this kind of bboxes usualy overrates by a large margin the output power and as you say...on 2 ohms of course you can think at 20W/ch but what THD?

I would love to have one of these classic good lookers. sure they are so empty you could pack a lunch in them but they are so beautiful, it's like staring at a fresh baked pie with a dollop of ice-cream on top. Once upon a time It was still very important to look good while walking down the street...then, it suddenly became not important.
