Hi ya all!
Desided to put my collection on show. It's missin a Hitachi 3D2 I bought from Blasterpunk (on it's way I hope) and the Sharp GF-6060.
The biggest JVC is my latest find from flea market - it cost only 5 euros but it's missing the cassette door.

Yes,i see you have a Qt27,i love those little mini`s,the sound they throw out is excellent,i`de love a Qt77,twin deck model..
Hey opamox, nice collection
The silver one in the middle,
what is it? I like em.
old.school.scott - 2009-08-18 10:37
I love the collection.
please list what they are, I know more about Boom-boxes than the average man but I don't know what a couple of these are.
Nice choices though, I want the black one.
Rock on OSS
Thanks guys.
Qt27 is excellent! Sturdy lil boombox. Still, I've been wondering is it possible to record music on tape from my computer? What kind of cord do I need or is it possible at all?
The silver in the middle is a Jetstar. The model might be U 150, but I don't know actually. I think this is german.
All boomboxes from left to right:
Crown SZ-71
Sharp Qt27 Blue
Jetstar (Model ???)
Aiwa TPR-926
JVC RC-680
Missing from the picture, stored in the cellars: Sharp GF-6060 (the picture is googled, not mine)
Also missing the Hitachi TRK-3D2e I bought from Blasterpunk. Still waiting for it to arrive.
OSS: Which black one you mean? The big or small?
old.school.scott - 2009-08-18 14:04
that JVC is what's up.
cheers OSS
Aww yeah, looks better already.
Thanks Peter one more time for the sweetest 3D2!
EDIT: And oh yes, let's not forget my cool cassette box:
Hey, check out the Paper Clip Antenna!!! Now that's some Old Skool action right there!!!
Remember using a Clothes Hanger as a substitute???
The only problem with Boxes from the 'Hood in the late 80's, was that you've noticed more and more of them with missing antennas because, (and it's sad for me to say this, but):
PEOPLE WERE BREAKING THEM OFF TO SMOKE CRACK OUT OF THEM!!! 'NUFF SAID
cheers KB - thats a great idea - off to buy some crack now
-------------------
nice collection there - that hitachi 3D has a nice clean look
and i love the blue QT27
HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA
!!! Bendy, you've got me in tears over here!!!
But it's true!!! Believe it or not, there were many a TV in my old neighborhood with missing or broken antennas too because of that epidemic!!!
It's sad.
'NUFF SAID
Just got a new monster to my collection.

Got the 3D80 today!
Haha, thanks!
It's actually a monkey and it's made out of socks. :P It has a long tail also.
Actually nothing. They are dummy boxes for childrens underwear I made at school.
I was thinking something to eat would be in there
No, sorry, nothing to eat.
Well thats just pants then
The newest one in picture.

Just paper and air.
Beautiful girls and nice sock monkey <3
I cant wait to see your Sanyo nearby my triple seven. Lets evict my neighbours! >
Boombastic matey!
Just moved into a new apartment. Had to get rid of my old speakers cause they were so big and my amplifier broke down. No worries though, guess which one is singing the disco from my technics now?
On top of the 920 my Koss K/40LC Plus headphones. :P Similar with these:

I like that one on the left... you said it was an Aiwa?
Yup, it's an Aiwa. TPR-926 to be exact. I like it too. It's a solid, heavy and very loud box.
Only the tape deck isn't working, the belts should be replaced but I don't know the right sizes.
Took a pic of my 3D2 in the sun.
The 3D2 is on the roof of my -86 corolla fx. Actually I think that 3D2 is also from -86.
yup, the Hitachi 3D2 was available in 1986. It's a good little 3D, that one (& the smallest of all the 3Ds). Usually the 3Ds with the smaller centre woofer(s) aren't as good (like the 3D30), but this one is the exception. The 3D2 is one of the first generation 3Ds, with the best build & it has a sparkle to it's sound that is missing from some of the later models. you do have to be careful with that little centre woofer though, it runs out of puff pretty quick.
But, if you back off the bass a bit with the EQ it's quite a shouter for such a little'un.
Your 3D80 will handle lots more bass, of course with two of the larger woofers.

The Sanyo?
I had one of these once & the sound is approaching M90 quality... a really nice boomer that one.

Yes you can.
Adjust the audio output volume from the computerto areound 50-67%. Plug a 3.5mm (headphone jack) from the computers sound-card output (or headphone output on a laptop) to the input of your chosen boombox.
Looking at what you have, I'd say the big Sanyo will make the best recordings, with it's manual recording level controls. However, you'll need an adaptor, as the audio input is a 5 pin din socket (like
this one). Otherwise, most other boomers, like your 3D2, will have the more usual RCAs for aux-in, so you'll need a standard 3.5mm to RCA cable (like
this one).
Oh yes, sanyo does that work so fine.
The sound is excellent!
When I asked about that recording thing, I was talking about my Sharp Qt27, which has large DIN socket (tagged AMP) and two 3.5mm sockets (tagged EXT MIC). So does anyone know what those sockets do? I've recorded alot with my 3D2 and it works fine.
Oh, by the way: my M-X920 does have RCA and phono inputs, not DIN.
Here's a better photo of my Aiwa.
Got recently a purple reel to reel cassette for it too.

Sanyo M-X920K
I LOVE IT!
Hi, opamox! Interesting collection that you're building there (smile). I recognize the Sanyo
M-X920K; it's the same model that another list
member has in his good-looking collection. I think the 'X920K's got one shortwave and one longwave band each. Tell me, does this Sanyo model come with a fine-tuning knob to better receive those bands?

Nice image you have of your unit, opamox. That
Aiwa TPR-926 sure is a good example of early-Eighties portable-stereo quality
. But,
uh ... no fine-tuning knob for shortwave listening?

Hi EastHelp!
Yeah, it has fine-tuning knob.
This one has SW1, SW2 and MW bands and FM and FM AFC.

You're right, this doesn't have fine-tuning at all. But that's ok to me, here in Finland we listen basically only FM transmissions.
EASTHELP is shortwave mad
anyway OPAMOX, the sanyo is a beauty
i have recently got one fully working in good condition, it,s gotta be my best box, absolutely stunning
congrats on yours
On midsize boxes like the Aiwa, shortwave was only for advertising purposes. They did not expect you to actually use it. Thus no fine tuning control.

Aww! No real shortwave-tuning usage expected by Aiwa with its (non-flagship) boomboxes? A technical rudiment? Now THAT'S a sad little note to end things on!
Got a new awesome box today!
AIWA TPR-950
Will take a few better photos later.
Ok ok, one more!
OOoooh sweet thang!
sweet little aiwa, congrats
One of the best-sounding midsizes.......Good "warm" bass at low volumes. I wish the metal trim on top was gray instead of teal/aqua, though.
Yeah, it's a really nice one.
It was the filthiest boombox I've ever seen. When I first opened the cardboard box the smell was something like ashtray, disgusting. After half an hour cleaning it was already much better and it is actually in pretty good shape!
I was thinking of taking it apart to clean the pots and to wash the casing properly. I should change the belts also, but I don't know the right sizes. Also the radio doesn't have too good reception. Is there something I could do to get it working better?
One thing I noticed is that it looks like it only has input for phono. Is it really true that there is no line-in in this model?
Did you get it from germany? Most of my stuff from there reaked of nicotine. No disrespect.
Oh yes I did. Those damn smokin' germans.
Well, at least I got it cleaned quite well and it's complete with antennas and everything. I'm happy with it.
Here's the best of my collection on my record collection, with the latest addition.
