It was the filthiest boombox I've ever seen. When I first opened the cardboard box the smell was something like ashtray, disgusting. After half an hour cleaning it was already much better and it is actually in pretty good shape!
I was thinking of taking it apart to clean the pots and to wash the casing properly. I should change the belts also, but I don't know the right sizes. Also the radio doesn't have too good reception. Is there something I could do to get it working better?
One thing I noticed is that it looks like it only has input for phono. Is it really true that there is no line-in in this model?
Mine has excellent reception, as well as both line-in AND phono

Haha, no I'm not a priest. I'm a graphic designer.
SK900 looks awesome. I'm looking for a bit smaller high end box - I want the Sanyo M7900. I've seen a few of them on ebay, but not too often.

Actually, I later noticed that the tuner is just fine. I first tested it inside in a bad place. I changed the spot and the radio was completely OK.
Thank god.
Mine still has only 5-pin DIN input and the mode selector switch has only tape, radio and phono.
A friend of mine is making me a reverse RIAA adapter so I'll manage.
Something like this:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh....
Had a little project last night: PIMP MY BOOMBOX - Crown SZ-71
That's absolutelly worst quality boombox I have ever seen. Plastics break easily, sound ain't too good and the overall feel is really weak. That's why it needed some stickers to hold it in one piece while on the go.
Also installed that strap on it last summer.
Yea those late crowns seem to be of really poor quality. Saw one at the flea a while ago for a couple of euros. It was probably made out of the cheapest plastic available at the time... Man it was like it would fall into pieces when you grabbed it!
Did you get it? Was it a mini also or was it a bigger one?
Oh my, Oh my... NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If there is sound it might be what I kinda-like had with my 9595, a dead amp chip (not the mainamp but the secondary one... OR the main).
Just trial and error to check it.
Good luck! And it seems realy clean!!!!
Got a new box today!
It's a Sharp GF-8585. The overall condition is good - although there are some faults.
There is a dent on the right antenna, so it doesn't fold completelly (If someone has a spare one, PM me!). Cassette deck works completelly, but there is disturbing hum while playing. The hum goes away when the edit button is pressed down. Too bad the edit doen't stay down without a toothpick. Also the left channel is almost dead, but not completelly. Does anyone have any hints how to fix these? A few cosmetic faults are the chrome chipping from the tuner mode selector and the APLD light has dropped inside.
Otherwise the box feels really solid and it is heavy for it's size.
Lovely midsize unit!
nice box the 8585, great sharp build quality, and good sound to match, nice looker too, congrats OPAMOX
Now,that is what every one should have!!!! At least one solid Sharp!!!!!! NICE!!!
What was the "Going Price" for that baby?
I paid 38€ for it, including the postage.
Fair price, I think.
i had 2 of them but sold them earlier this year.....good price though
Great price!!!!!!
Dave, how much did you get from those? This was 25€ without postage.
Took a group photo today.
Few missing from the picture, but these are the best.
cool ****!
Still likin' the 3D2 in there, of course
That Hitachi TRK8080 is a real nice-looker, but I worry that it suffers from the same issue most mid-size Hitachi's suffer from: not much bass. Those woofers don't look the strongest...

Very nice! Hitachi TRK8080 - what a nice box..Lovely design, especially upper part..Lovely, congrats, man
Man,I just sold an Aiwa identical to that recently..wish I hadn't now..great box, kinda wants to be a big boy with the little roll bar and all...deceptively heavy for it's size too..was the only one I had where the handle could rotate all the way forward as well as fold back instead of stopping at upright..strange feature..nice collection fella
Thank you for the comments, all of you!
iso: Yeah there is abit of that problem- Bass ain't too strong. For example compared to trp-950 it sounds really lame. Still I think it's really worth getting one of those - especially for the looks, it's SO cool!
dave: well then my price was quite fair! I'll try to get the another channel working again, then it would be just perfect. One thin that surprised me on that 8585, it's really heavy even without the batteries!
BV: yeah the 8080 is really a Looker with capital L with its aluminum panel and chrome knobs. Sturdy boomer!
Ffatlac3: Which Aiwa you sold, the 926 or 950? Both are great and heavy boxes. I think I'd rather sell my gf-8585 than any of my Aiwas.
Yeah it was the 926..to be honest I only started out just thinning the collection down a little but ended up selling a few in moments of madness that I wish I hadn't...Ah well, there's still room for more..I work as a removal guy so occasionally come across the odd box or 2 going spare..actually that reminds me,I know of a mint decent sized old Sanyo in a nursing home common room locally...must chase that up and see if they want to swap for a more modern unit
Ffatlac3: Yeah, the 926 really tries to be a bad boy with the roll bar - and accomplishes quite well! :P I think that the handle on yours was broken since mine doesn't rotate to front. Actually the handle should "click" to the highest position if it's completelly ok, like it does on the 950 too. That feature prevents the handle to fall back down so easily. I wish I could figure the tape deck on that 926, it's a really nice box to carry around because it's not too heavy and it's still vey loud!
