Got a Panasonic RX-CT800 boombox today.
it's a nice 3 piece Panasonic boombox-appearing to be from about 1990 or 1991.
It has a lot of features-including:
-2 cassette decks
-5 band graphic equalizer with the following bands:
100Hz
330Hz
1kHz
3.3kHz
10kHz
-volume control
-selector control
-CD/line input jacks (RCA type jack)
-combined editing (high/normal speed dubbing/microphone) and FM mode/B.P. control
-headphone jack
-FM/AM radio
-Tape deck features
relay play
synchro start recording
one touch recording
-speakers can be detached from the main unit
-speakers have a tweeter in each speaker
-has the original marketing labels on each cassette deck
Sound quality when using the 5 band equalizer is very nice.
Panasonic's boomboxes are known for having excellent sound quality-and the RX-CT800 is no exception.
For example:setting the 330Hz equalizer band to to +10 gives a powerful bass driven sound.
This one is from the Platinum series from the 90's.
I still own my original DT-680 and the sound is excellent.
Thanks for telling me what series my RX-CT800 is part of.

yeah fussy, ford is right, try and get ahold of a dt680,or ct990,the sound is just ground breaking,i had a ct990,but now i have a 680..the sound and quality is outstanding....
The RX-CT800 does sounds very loud-especialky if using the 5 band EQ.
Will look for one of the ones you suggested in the future-but for now am impressed by my CT800
The RX-CT800 was sold in some countries under the National brand:

Which models other than mine were in the "Platinum series"?

I don't know what the 800 sounds like but if it's anywhere near the 680 i have, then it will be one of the best sounding around
the 680 has a rich creamy bass that stay's pure when pushing it up
and yet remains clear
a must have for a collector
I got my RX-CT800 in Feb 1990 and have been using it ever since, although it's been modified a good deal. It's been my car stereo the past several years.
They were 1989-92 or so. In all honesty it probably qualifies as black-junk (uses a magnet instead of a proper erase head for example) but it's not a bad box overall. When I got mine I remember picking that one because it had quite good sound out of those that had the features and price range I wanted. It's middle of the line or so; retailed for $99 back then. But DT680 and the like are far better, with their more solid speakers and bi-amping. Some very similar concurrent models were RX-CT710 (I think that was it) w/just one deck, and a RX-CT810 that had auto reverse on the right-hand deck. And there was a Quasar alter-ego version that had a "puffier" appearance but was otherwise the same.
EDIT: Those are working piezoelectric tweeters too. I don't think they did much (from what I recall--I replaced mine with 2-way car-stereo speakers a long time ago because they were torn and didn't rewire the piezos because they seemed redundant) but that the speakers were actual 2-way's was a nice touch.

I would leave that to Jens he is the Yoda of boomboxes.
Another model, RX-CT830 is very similar looking to the CT800-only difference is the CT830 has auto reverse.
Here's a video I dound on Youtube showing the differences between this and my model-the CT800:

Oh--the auto-reverse one was 830.
I remember now, the 810 was just a newer version of the 800, and was "puffier" like the Quasar alter-ego.
That video was kinda neat: gotta love the internet.
