Tungsram CSC-850

mrp32dave - 2010-04-10 15:50

Found this at a carboot today paid £3 for it radio works fine, overall conditon ok very dirty and quite a few paint spots which should clean off.Real shame about the cassette door and keys, cassette section will probably work but needs new belts. It's got potential, what do you think?

Can't remember the model number and it's at my daughters house.

Nice find. That is also know as a "Crown 850 "
Nice box...... Wink

One of the best-sounding 1-piece boxes, if it's working properly.

2steppa - 2010-04-10 23:41

That's an interesting find, didn't realise there were variations on that model (Crown 850). Fantastic box, despite it's obvious neglect by some chump in the past Mad
If you can get the cassette working, the lack of pause and rewind isn't necessarily too much of an issue, more the cosmetic issue of the gaps where the buttons should be and the cassette door.

Oh, and Tungsram used to make light bulbs (here in the UK at least!).

No worries mate, I can see where you were coming from Smile

Haven't seen Tungsram branded bulbs for donkeys years.

lav.loo - 2010-04-11 04:46

iv,e never heard of that brand that,s why i presumed osram Smile atleast the lights on the tungsram should hold out Laugh Out Loud good find for £3 though, nice box Wink

Incredible! A Crown 850, regardly of condition, for £3. If you can get it working it will definately be worth it.

Bast of luck.

brigadier.vytas - 2010-04-11 09:12

Ok, hungarian Tungsram is a subsidiary of General Electric, but is this box licensed Crown "a.k.a."? I wonder if the sound and everything inside is same? Anyway, fantastic looking box for funny price, congrats, man. I love such condition boxes. I don't use cassettes often, i would make a simple thin allu/fat clear plastic door without possibility to open/close it and put a reel cassette, like i did it with Sony CFS 65S

mrp32dave - 2010-04-11 15:36

I've started to clean up the Tungsram CSC-850 and underneath the dirt and paint spots it's actually quite nice and so such a shame the cassette door is missing along with the missing keys.

Another bonus is it still has it's original carry strap.

driptip - 2010-04-11 22:11

fabulous machine man, take care of it.

kennedy - 2010-04-12 06:16

That is an awesome find despite the condition, £3 man! Crown csc850 is one of my current most wanted (on the 'being realistic list'!), I'd be happy to settle for this model though.

Nice one.

andyboombox - 2010-04-13 06:47

viennasound - 2010-04-14 01:17

In our company we use many neon-lams from TUNGSRAM. But never seen a boombox under this brand. Red Face

mrp32dave - 2010-04-14 13:16

Thanks everyone for your comments and interest, yeah Tungsram is a strange brand for a box searched and searched the web and found nothing.
Anyway update on the Tungsram, it now fully working I've rebelted the cassette deck which now works very well and luckily all the keys were the same so I moved them around so record and pause are the missing ones now, given it a good clean and it looks pretty good, and sounds very good, still can't believe I paid £3 for it, so all it needs now is a cassete door and the missing keys unlikely that I will ever get these, but you never know.

Here's a link to video of it playing a cassette:

Yeah it looks great mate, you did good there.

Regularly these turn up without a strap so at least you got something to carry it with this summer! (do we think original strap?) . . . as for the buttons and cassette door, there is a chance someone will be able to help you out. Enough Crown CSC 850's turn up to make me think there must be plenty of parts and beaten up boxes still out there.

KENNEDY.

andyboombox - 2010-04-17 03:00
