muto - 2010-06-10 08:08

Yesterday received a old Hitachi 3D. Today found a new 3D from recycling center:

More to follow later.

i passed one of them 3d,s up this morning muto and instead picked up a panasonic rx ct900 Wink

Here is the older one:

I think this is the first 3D model ever? Sound is amazing, might be my best sounding box.

lav.loo - 2010-06-10 08:41

that,s the nicest of the 2 muto Nod Yes

retro.addict - 2010-06-10 11:27

Yes, that's the 3D7, the first one. The earliest version of that box was called the TRK-7620, it was later re-named the TRK-3D7.

The new one is 3D30E and the old is TRK-7620E. I think there is one without "3D SUPER WOOFER" text?

Yes, I've seen a few 3D30's without the text.

hey muto
so you got that 3d then?
i have got out the 3d80 i was gonna offer you and got reaquainted with it-this has to be the best of the 3d's-but ive had one like yours there and i must say its a nice enough all round unit-albeit a bit late for me-but i guess everyone has owned at least one 3d at some time or another-ive had several over last year and a half Wink

Yes Andy Smile. Got a nice 3D. I was suprised how nice it sounds. There is no real tweeters but it still sounds clear. It actually got a good low end also. This will be one of keepers.

The box is missing handle so i attached a nice strap:

ah....the wonders of the 3d8e-this was my first box.its gone now though-but it does have power-and bags of it-well done mate-needless to say my 3d80 has much more than even that-im not that keen on the 3d's as ideally theyre a little too late in the boombox years for me-they started out in 1986 and went through right until 1992 i believe-the 3d in your first picture is a later one-id say 91 or 92-but the 3d8 is an earlier one-86 or 87, and one of the better 3d's so well done mate-the 3d8 never was designed to have a handle, just those grab rails on the side-so its a novel idea putting that technicolour strap on it-plus it suits it-smooth move, dude Cool

andyboombox - 2010-06-12 01:14

oooops-just noticed-its not a 3d8-idiot i am-is it the 3d7/70?

isolator42 - 2010-07-16 07:33

...sorry, my sporadic visists to s2g mean I miss threads like this Smile

Right.

Muto, you have yourself a 3D7 (aka TRK7620) - the very first Hitachi 3D.
This is, of course, exeptionally excellent & I may just be a teeny bit biased there...

European hitachi 3D models had the white text on the grilles & the canadian models didn't. Not sure about the rest of the world...

The 3D7 had a decent 6½" centre woofer that has a long throw for a portable & lots of decent features. No proper aux-in is a pain, though.

The other one is indeed a 3D30, one of the less impressive later models, with only a 4" centre woofer. Still a respectable boomer, but when you compare the two, the difference in build, sound & pretty much everything is evident.

As for timelines, I believe the 3D7 was available in around 1985 (& the 3D8 & others a year later, as andy v said).
The handle on my 3D7 is fine & has survived literally years of use. I'm wondering if the handle from my parted out 3D50 might fit your 3D7? badger me about it & I'll check Smile

Finally, muto, I very much like yr avatar pic; it's a 3D7 tweeter*, isn't it?
Yr tweeter to my woofer, eh? Smile

* not that you'll hear much from it - Piezo tweeters on 3Ds just make up the numbers really...

really...

Hello Isolator,

This hitachi says "TRK-7620" on the type plate.

It was easy to mod a "real line in" by removing motor dc input. I don't use tapes so much so this was easy decision. Just press rec button to activate line in.

The 3d30 is our kitchen radio now Smile.

I'm not sure if i need the handle, works fine with that strap. Thanks anyway! Smile.

Heh, yes, my avatar is a joke. I had to do it when i saw your avatar. My tweeter is bigger than your woofer!
