Well Here it is..
Sorry to hear that this one has issues, but in the pics it does look like a beauty. I've been down the melting a small screw into the plastic case before to recreate a cassette door pivot, I'm sure you got the skills to restore this one to full splendor.
you should have seen the gf 777 i got off ebay ,it wasnt even worth 5 bucks when it arrived ,i gave 90% of it away and custom built the case now it is awesome! glad you got some life back in it ,only thing you can do about the door mounts is maybe replace the studs with small screws i did that and it worked ok but not great ,heres how i made lemon aid from a big lemon lol.

how you today doc..yes i have done this with my GF909,and i also did it to a GF575,these flimbsy little plasic hinges arethe worst stupid idea i've ever seen,i'm sure sharp knew when they were making them that this was a crrap idea
Floyd...
On this box,i may just drill a hole where the hinge was,and try and make a tiny peg that i can just apoxy in to it,i will have to make sure its a good fit first..i just wish that sharp would have done a better job of making those hinges..
maybe you could use a small diameter wooden dowel rod to insert into the holes and expoxy them into place.

yess thats a pretty good idea..i will either use that or a tiny plastic peg..but i will have to try and disguise it as an origonal hinge..maybe dabb it with grey primer paint,or a dull silver..
sorry to hear it,s not as you expected G,MAN
i noticed on my old 777 that the deck doors was a bit flimsy
a bit of bad workmanship from sharp there i think.
still it looks a beaut, and if im correct it,s the model you,ve been after for eternity, right?? lets hope number 3 arrives in good shape for you, you deserve it after all the heartache with the first 2
anyway congrats on a lovely box
another thing is that the hole on the side of the deck door where the studs snap into it tends to wear out .

cheers for the comment lav,its an ok box but in rough shape, the fronts in good condition, but the top, sides and back is a bit tatty....
and yess..floyd i know what you mean about the hinge sockets in the doors,i was thinking of putting a tittle apoxy in there, then let it go off, then offer the door back up to the hinges, just to shape the apoxy and position the door in the right place, then, when the apoxy has the right impression pressed into it from the hinges, take the door back off and let the apoxy set..
Sorry about that paul lad. I wish you would have had mine. Sorry to keep saying it mate.
Do you have a link to this auction? Either there were a lot of details left out of the description or you didn't translate it correctly. Also, if it was listed as "junk", you shouldn't have expected it to be fully working... Those Sharp 999's are VERY common on Yahoo Japan, but to get one that's fresh out the box without problems, you're probably gonna pay much more than you did (¥25,000+) 'cause other cats would've ran that price up higher than whatever you won it for...
Sounds like most of the money you spent was for shipping charges and whatnot. All that said, you got exactly what you paid for and there's no need to really complain.
ghettoman sorry about the messy box you got, but at least the cosmetics are fantastic, from what i can see in the pics, most of those 999-1000-, are full of rust and pitty on the face.
it does look a lot nicer than the 777
on the 999 you can actually see the twin needles and they look cool, glad you got the door hinge sorted too G,MAN, good stuff
This is good to read!!!!!
No matter how much a collector can be pissed about this and that (that is ALL OF US at one moment or another)... We end up doing what is needed to fix our Bboxes, and most of the time... we are happy in the end!!!!!!!!!!
IT LOOKS NICE!!!!!!!!!!
