ok guys, done another deal with member DOCS today as he had a day off work
a while back you may remember i done a trade with him and he ended up with my beloved 9191.
anyway, DOCS knew how much i loved it and i got a call from him the other day saying he had a mint one lined up for me
he went ahead and bought it with me in mind and today he said it was ready to go and view.
anyway to cut a long story short i went to his house today and done a deal for the 9191, it was'nt mint as the seller had described but it is fully working and is in good cosmetic condition, it was just real dirty, so tonight i took it apart and give it a very good detailed clean, you would'nt believe the dust/dirt around the speaker cones
anyway here's a few pics, sorry i did'nt do before and after, but there is pics of the box open and pics of it after it was done, also a pic of the filth i got out of the speakers on a cleaning wipe thanks DOCS for another great deal, it just gets better
Awesome cleanup, Lav! It looks gorgeous! Those speaker cones are completely stain free, unlike my 9090. The 9191 is a cool looking box, congrats on getting another!
thanks RA, them cones was filthy before i cleaned em, i forgot to get pics of em before cleaning
Were they just dusty, or properly stained? The ones in my 9090 have water marks on, proper stains.
they was just really dusty inside, i believe the box was really filthy when it arrived at DOCS house, he gave it a general clean and then i give it a proper detailed clean tonight, and i mean detailed, it's like new
I did a very detailed cleaning like that on my Sanyo M9990.
ye i did on my m9990 too, i did that one a couple of month back, very similar amount of s**t as the 9191
very easy boxes to get to the speakers on though.
i gotta say the sanyo sounds way better than the 9191, but the 9191 is louder.
i also compared the 9191 to the 9595 tonight too, and the 9595 sounds much better. it has clarity, with a richer sound just like the m9990
the 9191 is nice lav, good clean up, what was the trade.
what did you trade it for AZ
this is one of my wishlist...
Nice!!!
Although the seller thought it was a minter it turned up grubby, though underneath it was a gem waiting. I spent a solid 3 hours on it making it representable before it needed a detail cleaning which LL completed.
Really pleased it worked out well and those cones look minty white now after removing the layer of dust.
Thanks for the deal LL I'm enjoying having the d8614 back in my collection.
thanks guys
i traded it for a d8614 which was originally DOCS, i traded it with him in the last bulk trade we did, i love the d8614 probably more than any box, but i really did'nt want 2 of them, so im happy with getting back a 9191, and DOCS is happy with he's d8614 back
I needs that radio!
Looks like that muck on the buttons came out too LL. The electronics inside looked really clean to me too. Overall, a gem !!

great score, Lav! I love that box. I had a chance to check a 9191, when my mate asked me to make a missing cassette door. Everything looks so great.. (except for line in sockets in the front!)
.
Sounds like I need to make friends with DOCS!
- To be fair I've got a nice 9191 already but I'd happily go for a 2nd. I wouldn't have had much to trade though, so congrats LAV, another successful deal done . . .
. . . I give it 2 weeks before your trading it for something else!
Well done on the cleaning er . . . both of you.

I have quite a rare box which has both line-in and out sockets on the front. I find it's handy having them where they are, and they don't detract from the appearance in my opinion. It's one of my favourite boxes as it has bass and treble controls, twin antennas, a nice LED meter, and good sound. The looks aren't amazing though.
Anyway here it is in all it's glory...

Thats a nice looking unit that RA and I agree with you about the front facing phono sockets. I actually think that they are an advanced feature having them front facing which is definately unique for a boombox and infinitely easier to plug things in and out of.

Yeah I agree totally about the phono sockets.
I love the chrome tweeter covers on this one also.
Sorry for hi-jacking your thread LAV, I'll stop now.

I've got a 9090 too, but I've never had a 9191, so I can't say which sounds better. I do know the 9191 is quite a bit taller than the 9090.

Same, I've got the 9090 - I love it
I did pick up a 9191 at one time, and it was a much bigger box, however more or less exactly the same on the inside from what I could gather, it was ****** though so shipped it off back.
there's not much difference in sound actually, the 9191 may have a little more power, but in my opinion the 9191 looks a lot more ghetto than the 9090
Have you ever had the issue with the capstan LAV? I need to fix mine, but I don't know how to get to the capstan
