I have a JVC RC-838LB in mint condition, great looking box!

i think im following suit here but i too love the helix, very nice box, no love for the jvc though, it,s quiet ugly, never been a fan of the jvc look

The 838 it´s ugly when us see in pictures.

In live, it´s another story... ...weights a ton, very loud and impressive.

2 Great Ghetto's there,the helix is nice looker but the JVC-838 or Victor is quality build and has a ton of features to boot! nice score hardmen

i have no doubt the jvc is a quality box, maybe i was a bit blunt on saying it is ugly, i should have put it a bit more subtle anyway congrats on the 2 of them, and enjoy

Yeah the JVC is quality......very heavy, and the best reception of any of my boxes. No bass though. It was manufactured before they understood the importance of bass.

The JVC is the one with "biphonic" sound?

Reli I don't agree with you and with anyone who sustaines that the JVC rc 838 has a weak bass.
The rc 838 has lots of good bass,believe me!

if i had an 838,from all of what i've hurd about the sound,the first thing i'de do is a speaker change,get some beefier bass speakers in there and see what its like then,bet it will be 100% better !! cant beleve no one has done it yet..

The speakers on the rc838 are100% OK.And the preamp. circuitry is very good.
The only thing could be the power of 2,6x2watts or 2x5music,but I'm not absolutly sure.You can not compare that with the power of an m70 or other powerfull one let's say the m90 or any other you know.
But I'm convinced by the evidence that the rc 838 has a very good bassy sound and I can demonstrate this with the oportunity of a stere2go meeting
Anyway Ghettoman I think you are right.When I use the rc 838 with external speakers at the same time with other my good bboxes I can say the rc 838 is the one.

The 838 woofer produces fast bass, not so deep bass like Studio M1, or Kabooms or Sony FH Series, but bass is there (considering your 32 year old woofer).
