Dismantled, cleaned inside and out, cleaned speaker cones, sorted horrible sliders and switches, tape deck aligned and cleaned.
Still outstanding issues: 1 x antenna needed, 1 x belt needed for tape deck (take-up spool).
Apart from that, this thing ROCKS for a medium size box, nice bass and crisp highs, cool vu meters, lots of switches to play with......
One thing, I didn't realise these were a 10 battery box, for it's size I always assumed it was eight....
Well, I like this box, a lot. I'd recommend it without hesitation
Man, that thing looks minty! I really like the RCA inputs on the front of those 9191s.
happy to notice that you guys are admiring that nice 9191 -- because --the thread hi-jack is ::
i will be posting up a real beautiful BLACK and CHROME 9191HB soon --
ie - get $$ prepared --
Nice box, 1oD'S in there impressive, it must be quite loud then.
That's one gorgeous box Chris! It looks great! Good work!

great job 2steppa, love the 9191 to, if you know the size of the belt you need i might be able to help you out there
Cheers Geoff, unfortunately the belt fell out of the tape mech in pieces, it was that badly rotted, so I can't say with any accuracy what the total correct size would be
It's the drive belt for the take-up spool, which lasted all of 10 seconds when I first pressed play, followed by THAT sound of a nice TDK SA90 being digested!
If it helps the belt size is identical to the Hitachi TRK-8129

Super cool 2steppa, nice rebuild. I agree with 2steppa's conclusions and can personally attest to the cool factor of the 9191.

No bids, these are nice boxes. They have a really nice look, feel and sound. OK Ira I bid $5!
Ooops, sorry 2steppa bad habit of thread hijacking.
Update:
I've now got the tape working, albeit a bit slowly, not sure where the speed adjustment is as it's not on the motor base but I'll keep looking!
Also, I had a whoops incident: Listening, admiring and enjoying the box as it sat on the bed, I leaned over and adjusted the controls, as I took my hand away the box rocked slightly, in fact enough to fall backwards, flip over and smash top down onto the bedroom floor
But, and this is testement to the build quality of these things, apart from the tape stopping because the stop button was smacked down the unit is totally unscathed and still working a treat! Phew!

Aaaaaaaaaiieeeeeeerrrrrrghhhh!!!!!
WHEW!
Man what luck! That would super suck to do all that work and watch it go for naught!
