I purchased this beauty over a year ago from Australia. It was the first overseas sale for the seller and they weren't sure about it but we worked it out because these things turn up as often as snowballs in Jamaica. A very good exchange and my first overseas purchase.
I elected to have it shipped by air since the purchase price was so amazingly low. Plus the exchange rate favored me at the time.
Needless to say, it got bounced around a bit. When she arrived the reciever case had a crack and a small piece chipped out, left channel didn't work right, cassette failed shortly after testing, and the speaker surrounds immediately went to the great busted foam in the sky, record mute button missing and volume slider button broke off, yadda, yadda.
It was well packed. But...unless you pack it in a safe, well, even then, nothing is 100% sure.
Since then slowly over time she has been completely rebuilt where needed, controls cleaned and lubed and new lamps. Speakers reconditioned and refoamed. This weekend was the first time I listened to it in one piece since I got it! Now she is a force to reckon with. My Sanyo C9 may be louder, but it's nowhere near this for overall sound. Only my Sansui CP-7 can hang with it blow for blow and my wife agrees so that's no baloney! (I was shocked my wife agreed with ME!
) I have stated before that the CK-5F had a weakness due to the integrated center cone into the CS-C7 speakers. I now retract that statement. Maybe the working set I heard had a problem but WHOA! As soon as I have time to do another in depth review you'll get the whole skinny.
And except for the manual, I have all the little goodies with it!
I present to you, the Pioneer CK-5F!
First I put the mustard yellow color back into the center surrounds when I got the speakers back...
And here she is my CK-5F!

Totally Awesome Job Oldy,She Looks PERFECT. Congrats!
When I went and picked up a pioneer component that I brought from the seller he was trying to understand why someone would want to pay for postage to the US.. I remember this one as i was bidding on the box as well
..
Great work oldskool.
That's awesome OldSkool! Brilliant job.
Absoloutely top class!
Rock On.
double down dibs
No matter how well some people try to hype a boombox's supposed indestructibility (is that a word?), this goes to show that just because a unit looks "solidly built", - and believe me, that Pioneer
looks "solidly built" - bad things can (and do) happen...
But, man, I'm glad you got her up and runnin' and lookin' good! Very impressive box!!!
Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm really sweet on this one. Right up there next to the CP-7.
That's a nice looking box you have, Freddie!
That's definitely got a 1st class ticket to Florida.

Hi oldschool-Excellent!! I really like this classic.
Pioneer is top notch quality.
I have my Pioneer home stereo from 1985'-
(SXV-90) and she works still strong today.
I like the speaker re-builds-mustard color is way cool!!

Thanks T/A!
I was requested by the person who did them to keep quiet and not say who. He doesn't want to get bombarded by requests for these type of repairs and I want to respect that because it is a very time consuming repair and he is still trying to fix his. I will say he is a fantastic guy and A+.

That is great .
You definitely lucked out getting someone to fix those for you, they look like they would be a pita to fix.
I look foward to seeing / hearing this one in person.

Awesome OS, that is one classy looking box. That's one nice 3-piece that does temp me away from my 1-piece boxes a bit.

Thanks MB!
You'd have a bit of trouble with my collection as a great deal of them come apart in FOUR or FIVE pieces.
