I got my refoamed woofers in the mail today from JvcFloyd,they look and sound awesome. So I went ahead and put the 880 back together. He is a few pics,I need to repaint the knobs as they are scratched up. I put them on so I could try it out. It straight up ROCKS!!!!! lots of bass and very clean sounding. It is very nice,I would like to thank Sinister for selling me this 880 and Ash 25 for the extra parts I needed to get it up and running. And JvcFloyd for the awesome job refoaming my woofers. and I would like to thank everyone else for the support and advise and the nice comments. This has been a interesting project. [URL=

but try not to forget the big 7000/880 sound-off

Don't worry Ira,I won't forget. I did compare them side by side just for a minute, and I would say that the Marantz PMS-7000 and the Aiwa CS880 are fairly close in sound quality,but the Aiwa can crank louder with less distortion. You need to turn the bass down on the Marantz if you crank it up past 4 or 5. The Marantz seems to distort with the bass on full. The Aiwa can crank most of the way up to 10 on full or a little less bass. The Marantz is better built than the Aiwa "IMHO". Everything inside the aiwa is "hardwired" where the Marantz is easier to work on. It has lots of plug in components.

actually - i think your one minute test was good enough to tell the story --so forget the 'details'

the marantz 7000 is much better looking , and the weighted tuning dial and all the knobs , controls are so damn elegant -- that the 7000 is unlike any other boombox -

and the overall sound is sweet --but agree that the 7000 bass power is not as solid as even most good medium size boxes --

so , not surprised that your 880 bass sounds better

its hard to beat the smooth sound of passive radiators in my experience ,although they do have limits .the bass is never really harsh or muddy with passive radiators,the only place they lack is in the lowest requence range cos the woofers driving the diaphram usually give up because they are not designed to produce such low frequencies like 20 hz or below ,but the trade off is low power consumption and high sensetivity and bass out put that you would not normally get from 2 6 inch woofers ,in addition the radiator diaphram it self if properly designed caused no distortion of its own.

Thanks Frank! no I'm not done collecting yet,I would like a Sharp GF777 or a GF999 and a few others too. The CS880 was just my personal grail that I had wanted for soooooo long. I guess it was kind of like your your Rising 20/20 means to you, except I did not own a CS880 before. I just remember them in stores and wanted one and could never afford one.

No Drip,the originals are all beat up. So I left them off till I could find some or repair them. You have a good eye for details though.....
