It's a BBX. It has a handle and take batteries.
But power rating operating with AC is 15+15W (o more, if someone know ... pleae tell me).
Really a minisystem performance, from power to sound quality.
Electronics inside
You only need to carry it to guess what happens inside. A very huge power tranformer, a big heatsink, a STK power stage ... no ... it isn't a minisystem.
Electronics inside is splitted in several bords.
Phono/Mic preamp, Tape Preamp, Turner, Volume and Eq, Tape logic control, and supply/power amp. All the board have connectors.
Casette deck
It's a full logic control with autoreverse, autmatic tape selector, dolby, repeat-one and repeat-forever features. Also has counter, autoskip
(APSS for one song), timer and autoplay.
A cool feature of this deck is it has memory.
If you power down the unit while playback and turn-on again, the deck returns itself to the function it was performing before the tunr-off
Operation is good, fast function execution and not noisy. It takes one DC motor and four or five solenoids to trigger / hold the functions. The automatic stop is for all functions and through an optical sensor. This avoids flutter that involves the mechanical speed sensing ...
Definitely the worst deck I serviced, but well made indeed. Take 2 belts and 4 tires.
Amp
Plenty of power. I've tested it with 10'' three way speaker system and it has driven they without effort very loud. The heat comming from inside is amazing when you operated near the rated power.
Tuner
It has 7 band. Really nice and works fine.
I/O
Of course has RCA in and out. RCA in is used both for CD and Phono with a selector switch on the back.
Speaker System
They are from the APM series. With square woofers and tweeters. Excelent sound and power handling. NO PLASTIC SOUND and NO VIBRATTIONS.
It a clear goal of this system. Clear bass and highs.
Design
Love the deck layout. Big buttons for the main functions, with little led indicators made an user friendly interface. The rigth amount of controls arranged in a great way.
Conclusion
I'm not a Sony Fan ... but the next time I see a Somy like this or a FH, I'll take it definitely. Very very well built, strong enough to be the main system of a house. Speakers are its goal, really superb quality and performance for it's size. Deck control layout is perfect.
But it's too heavy to put in my shoulder. Yes it has a handle and take batteries, but not my idea of a portable ...
Lets see it ...
Very nice unit Success!!! I really like the look of these units. I had a Sony CFD-5 with the APM speakers, they rock and look really cool.
Very nice sony, great looking 3 piece box. Definitely has the cool factor.
See my Sony in the upper left!
I know you'll enjoy it!

Thanks for the props on the boxes, it only a small part of them.
And yep that's a 9000. Not sure what the differences are between the 9900 and the 9000. And yes, "It's a Sony" sticker is on the door!
