so time passed and i bought another nice unit for the collection.
It's a JVC PC-5
a quick bad pic:
as you clearly can see the left dustcap popped off.
Well that was a good thing i do know now.
because...
I powered it up with the caps still in place and due to the bad static volume-slider the speakers went pumping hard..at that point the left dustcap fell off.
Well i was rather annoyed since i didn't expected that.
I pulled out the left speaker and what i have to see was even worse. The surround was shot in pieces
I guess now it's on to find good replacements..any recommondations?
on the other side, the PC-5 is a nice and heavy quality unit and i guess it will be one of my favourites once i got around to change the speakers.
Congratulations ks, a very cool addition! Sorry for your "surprise", but with a decent set of replacements, it'll rock yer socks off! The decal on the tape door is a nice touch.
Good luck with your speaker search.
Nice box, KS!
I saw one of those at the bootsale ages ago, but it was in bad condition and the handle was missing, so I passed on it. They're definately heavyweights! I hope you can find a replacement speaker for it.
That'll teach you to plug in an old box before cleaning the controls first!
Ask Freddie about replacement speakers. He seems to be the guru of that. Heck, he might even have some speakers he could send to you.
its gonna be great, felix --lots and LOTS of clean power -
please see my post to your wanted ad.
kid do the speakers still work?if so just have them re done i would do it for you if you wanted to spend the money on shipping both ways ,it will keep it original at least refoaming is not that hard i have done two sets of aiwa 880 woofers and one set of wx1 woofers and many large subwoofers and they all turned out great .

thank you guys and especially thank you floyd for the great offer.
I'll look up the price for shipping and my actual finances tomorrow and let you know via pm
Nice box!
I hope you can repair it.
Best wishes.
(In German: Schönes Teil, viel Erfolg beim basteln! Ich schraub grad an meiner Neuerwerbung herum...
)
oh damn i also did my rxc100 woofers and the sounded better than with the original foams ,next time i do a set im going to document it so people can have a go at it ,i hate to see good old skool speakers get tossed out .i re did several cerwin vega's which are notorious for foam rot but they are great speakers.
Kid, you have some Very, Very nice radios. And you just added another one to your collection. Congratulations amigo
Congrats feelix, first off let me tell you the pc5 is a great unit when reafomed slightly better than the pc55, also speaker rot is common with this model, it wasn't caused by you turning up the volume, i havnt seen a pc5 without speaker rot.
Congrats on yr new perchase youll love it when done.

thanks again guys!!
tim i did not thought so too, since i never heard of rottin foam just when volume turned up..even tough bad news on the door-step.
quote:
I just had it back together and tried it again on low volume.after some playing around with bass set-up on low i noticed a slight farting-noise from the right speaker too..
when i looked to it i saw the surround falling down too
guess that takes me up for 2 new speakers or 2 new surrounds.
on a side-note, since i did not payed that much for the unit im ok with the extra-costs..and damn it sounds even very nice when bass put on "0"!!
I'm glad that both speakers work so that they may only need new surrounds.
Kid i can vouch for floyds work, i have one of the 880's he reafoamed the speakers on and let me tell you i have given the 880 some punishment, the speakers havnt fallen apart yet
good luck on whateaver you decide lad.
thanks tim .
i gave em a good workout when i had them torture testing and all to make sure they would hold up under pressure.
Nice Radio Kid!
Very nice unit Kid! Direct competitor to my CP-7!
And you have the door still attached to the secondary controls on the cassette! Double good!
Nice one KS I bet it's built like a tank.
