FINALLY - after owning this boombox for more than a year - I hooked it up to a computer in my office. What can I say - MP3s sound spectacular. Radio sounds good as well. My mistake was that originally I put it in the living room, where it sucked. But in the smaller room this Sony really shines.
Also, at first I put my National 5350 in the bedroom - where it sucked. It was too loud for a smaller room, but it sounds INCREDIBLE in the living room.
I guess different boomboxes were created for different places
she looks nice. im cleaning mine right now, all the controls needed love.......
Thanks!
Ya, BigBen and this Sony are the most unique looking boxes I have - too bad Sony doesn't sound as good as it looks. Although the sound has improved a lot in the smaller room - much to my surprise
I've been in love with the look of this radio for a while, and now to know how she sounds, it makes me want one even more!
Love your work Vladi!
Rock On.
Thanks, Gluecifer

Very Cool Vladi, I love it. It's the one Sony I'm watching for.
Don, they do popup on ebay every once in a while, but I've never seen one as mint as mine - it even has the original Sony power cord
i had one of those ,its a big radio and very light for its size ,i cant say i loved the sound but i found it and 4 other boxes at a swap meet for under $20.00 so i was a happy guy

Yours is beautiful and that's the condition I would like to find and the Sony power cord is one rare piece. Thanks Sony for using a different plug than all of the other manufacturers, why the hell did they do that?

I have two of these. They are very solid boxes. I'm not sure why they don't sound better, seeing as they were the top of the line one piece models for Sony. I think one of mine came with an original cord, the other was -drum roll please- a cordless razor charging cord.
They hit pretty good on the bass, mids are somewhat mucked up to my ears, and the highs are limited by the directional goofiness of those black slotted covers.
JVC Floyd, what a deal. $20 for that 99 alone was a steal.
i found my sony cord at the swapmeet.......2 bux!!!
love that model. yours looks perfect. Ive wanted it for same time now.
hey vlad, is yours the japan version
Thats a beauty Vladi! I love that model and hope to have one someday. I got a CFS-77 from Sinister and it is a pretty cool box.
Sin, I don't think mine is Japanese. Is yours? What's the difference? 100V?
Skippy, if you like CFS-77 - you will LOVE CFS-99. And it can be yours - for a more than reasonable $900 plus shipping

Hi Vlad-Nice Sony,I like it!
It's very clean and I like some of the old Sony's.
My brother had one in the 80's.
BTW Vlad-I'm getting a WZ-939 Sharp this month!
Wish me luck!!
Have a great one-GB.
Thanks and good luck!
Where are you getting the 939 from, if you don't mind me asking? Chinese sellers or local?

Hi Vlad-I'm taking my chances with a Chinese seller!
That's why I said wish me luck!!
I have bought parts from this guy before with no problem,so I hope it will go alright.
I really like your set-up in your avatar.
I wish I had the space you do!!
52 boomers and not alot of room!!
Oh well,I may trade some or sell a couple one of these years.
Have a great one-GB.
Sin, mine must be American - FM goes to 108
GB - good luck!! I keep seeing those 939s on Ebay every week, but I simply do not want to pay for shipping more than for a boombox itself. I'm just going to wait until I see one locally
Ah, the memories of this one!!! Hanging out in Naples, Italy aboard the USS Dwight D Eisenhower. Med-Cruise 1982!!!
Excuse me, I think I need a Kleenex.........
