GE mini found at goodwill

killdamon - 2009-04-17 10:30

I found this nice little GE 3-5287A for $2.99 !

No cord and the tape deck don't work. You have to hold the radio button in for the power to stay on for am/fm. She sounds real good though Smile
Separate bass/treble and a loudness button. Nice clean battery compartment. I found some new belts for it i will be ordering and i will be takin' her apart to replace those and give it a good cleaning .

Its got a little hole in the front

There can be no discussion about the price. Big Grin
Nice mini!
Hope you can repair it without troubles. Smile

Sweet. I took it apart and the tape belt is intact. It slipped off the black wheel in photo, there was a small piece of debris lodged in the groove of the wheel that caused the belt to come off.

Heres some interior pix:

Got 'er back together, she cleaned up nice !

Unable to fix the radio/power switch though, I attacked it with some Deoxit, didn't work Frown
I used the plastic tube from a Q tip to make a wedge to hold the power button down in place so it will make full contact to stay on.

I have one of these also. These were produced during the "golden era" for mini/slimline styles and boomboxes in general. That is when these were loud for their size.Back then it seems manufacturers felt an obligation to give you quality in all price /model ranges.Build is very good and includes metal buttons.I find mine to be quite versatile,it fits in a small space, and is great to use on a daily basis.

Hey KD, that's a nice find. I've got a GE mini myself. Mine is really neat in that it has a space for a cassette on the back.

When you sprayed De-Oxit onto the power switch, was it from above or below? Looking at the layout of everything, it appears that you would have to get it from below. If all else fails, you could try to take the switch apart and fix the inside catch.

If Ira were not out galavanting with Tara today, he'd suggest using a toothpick instead of the Q-tip. Laugh Out Loud
