Last Saturday @ flea....
I´ve found some nice small boxes for me and was walking to the car. Passing the last dealers, no boxes.
Haahhh!
What´s that silver thing under the desk and under a heep of dirty clothes?
Yeaaah, never seen this type of PHILIPS before!

Look what i pulled out:
Absolute pretty condition (except the little deformation of the crashbar under the tapebuttons)
So i asked for the price > 50euros!

Never! too much!
Is it working? He: yes, absolute!

Problem: at this outdoor flea no chance to test it at a power connection.
A longer discussion follows.
Finally i took it for 30euros.

At home i waited a few hours to klimatisize the box. Never plug in when coming from outdoor into the heated home!

Snowstorm in the television?
No! The snow is outside! The storm was in my heart...

Nothing working at this pretty one!
It would be such a lovely box.
The polished top. So many functions
Clock with many functions, Levelmeter, 2 scales (radio+TV),....
The main fuse? NO!
Because the clock and the dial light is working!
(Clock goes only on AC, no batterie reserve).
This box would work on batteries too! Or car connection. Also tested - nope!

Backside:
So i have to check what is wrong.
The power supply inside must be ok.
What can be wrong...

If i had payed the full price, i would go back next week and throw him the box on the head.

If he had said on the working question "i don´t know" or "not tested", i would´nt be so angry.
But always on flea you will hear "everythings ok".
So when you have any chance to test it there - use it!

Finally a short quiz before i post the labelsticker.

The first owner has written the buying date at it! Guess, how old is this box?

Anybody an idea....
Wow! Thats a super high-end TV box Roman, amazing find. I've not seen one with that many features before..most that I've seen seem very workmanlike in appearance and features, but that one looks like genuine effort has gone in to the design.
I hope you can work your magic on her and get everything functioning, if anyone can YOU can! The key protect bar should bend back out nicely too.
I'm going to guess 1979. Design looks right on the borderline of late 70s and early 80s to me.
Rock On.
I own this Philips TV Box too.
I guess it's around 28 years old
It's made by Sharp.
Thanks, yes the finish of the box is very good.
I would love to see/hear it working.
Strange: This moment i plugged it in again, now there is a humming at the speakers and the tapedeck starts working(only mechanical).

It would be best, if it´s only a cold soldering point or so...
PHILIPS is well known for bad soldering.

Another problem is: I learned radio+tv technican and worked short time at the Philips-Service-Center. But 14years ago i changed to the railroad and forgot nearly all about this.
You´re tips about the age are very good, i wait a moment, then comes the label.

at least production span:
1979
1980
1981
1982
(verified in brochures)
OK guys, you have won.

Here is the label:
Nice one , but at these days without analog TV it´s ...........
Hope the tapedeck works

.
If the clock can turn-on the unit (alarm) and turn off (sleep for example), check some power transistor that switchs the supply (it's soldering joints).
I kill a recorder clock radio with a little short circuit while working. No power. It was dead. But clock still working. Guess ... the pass transistor was blown .. nice fuse.
Nice box, Roman! You should complete the TV bbx family with the Sharp 5P37G and the JVC 3090EN!
If you need parts, let me know.
Here is my Philips
Wow, a real clean machine!

Thanks for the offer!
I will take a look inside at weekend, maybe then i will know more...

Fantastic tv box you find Roman.

And of course blasterpunk, your box looking amazing.

Blaster do you have a time machine to go back and pick up these brand new looking boomboxes?

Oh Vienna hope all turns fine with the boombox.
Wow I cant get over how nice and clean that looks. That is a real nice tv bbx

Hi Blaster, nice one you have there. Can you show the top view? What about showing the JVC and Sharp unit. Thinking of getting one..
Left side:
UHF-VHFswitch, alarm switch, powerbutton, diallight, snoozebutton
Right side:
bass,treble,balance,volume,bandselector,stereocontrol,modeselector
TV boxes are weird!
And I love them!
Got my first back in the early 80's for a birthday present! Still have it too...
Good find dude. You can smash his face even if you paid 30€ for it. Just remember that guy said it was in working condition!
(I'm kidding)
