....means not the song from Jim Diamond.
But you can call it "diamond" as well.
Last week i´ve seen a interesting box at ebay.
Just starting, so no bids at it.
I wrote to the seller about a offer for a instant-buy.
So the "prompt-buy" button gets activated for a fair price and i took it.
2 hours later i started in the 2nd district to get it.
The door opens a young girl (~20).
She told me the box was from her grandpa.
I should check all functions and if i don´t like it, i can leave it. Very fair offer!
But the box was in great condition.
So it came with me...
First pics, 5minutes after buy at the car:
Never heared about "SILVER" before
I love the big frequency scale!
The box has found a new home
One for TPR.
Jens, some information about the box and the brand?
Block diagram over the whole top.
Who needs it..?
The scale is imposing!
But illuminated it´s a hammer:
Interesting: The VU´s are only flashing when tape playing or recording. But the manual says, it´s right so!
It also owns expanded stereo
The tapedeck is clean like the first day.
I think it worked nearly never.
But it works!
For this unknown label, it´s very solid made.
Everything at it tastes very good.
Not compareable with the actual cinese scrap.
I also got this old manual in 3 languages.
Finally the pic of it from the manual:
With this nice toy it is´nt so hard to stay in bed when ill.
Let´s say it like the "doobie brothers"
MUSIC IS A DOCTOR!So everybody stay healthy and let the music play...
GREAAAAAAAAAAAATE buy
You are such a lucky dog, a young girl handing out a cool BB
.
Gratulations on this one.
WAY TO GO!!! Fantastic score indeed!
Congratulations on your new addition!
I've seen those pop up on eBay from time to time...
How does it sound?
Vienna, that looks like a tank! Very sturdy looking. I am glad to see it went to a good home!
I too want to know how this bad boy sounds!
Johnny
Even original paper work too?
Nice score!
Very nice score Vienna!!
I like it Vienna. it looks very clean, paperwork too
That's museum quality right there!
Welcome to the Silver Club. Mine is an ST-868. Looks like (in addition to missing the LW band; no need for it here) there are cosmetic differences when compared to your 858.
And an AKA, the Montgomery Ward (a defunct U.S. department store) GEN-3996A. Cosmetically, it actually looks more like your 858.
(The name on this one is on the top, upper left corner.)
Hey, bb, with the black grills it´s looking very nice too.
Have you the papers too?
If not, i will send you a scan of mine.
About the sound: I think you will agree with me. Very powerful and impressive. Maybe the best sounding unit i own.
It can be named HIFI without doubts.
...and i fool forgot to take a pic from the girl with the box. Or without the box...
Yes, a hifi box for sure!
No, I don't have the paperwork. I will PM you with my email address, and, when you have some extra time, you can send me a scan of the papers. Thanks very much!
Of course, a scan of the girl who sold you the box would be even better...!
Hello
I got this bbox - it isn't a hifi-unit, but cool looking and great sounding one.
The Silver bboxes I have/had where all quality build and very heavy, massiv. I like the Silver-units ...
At this time the biggest bbox from Silver, like the broshure I have says ...
Best wishes

Shows once again just how subjective talking about how something sounds is.
Now, obviously, at some level there can be agreement. A Lenoxx Sound mini sounds bad. A Telefunken 1M sounds good. But in between, it's a total crap shoot. Like talking about whether a movie or a song is good or bad. It's a judgment call all the way.
So, as for the Silver, maybe better for me to say, "I like it. It sounds like high fidelity to my ears. Your experience may vary."
BB = right =
@bb:
And you got a message!
Please let me know that you got the mail.
If anybody else is interested in the manual, please a short message.
great looking box i think there was one of these with the airline name but not sure good for you vienna enjoy it
Jow
Don't get me wrong - but "real" Hifi means, that you got the whole frequenzy. The Silver is a great sounding unit with a smoth soft bass - but the sub-line is not there.
I love this bbox! ... even when it's no Hifi-unit ...
I got a small Sanyo M-S 350 LE (most of them are black/yellow - just to use with a extern power supply), and the Stereo-sound is unbelivable! Full stage! But the bass is complete missing - it has almost a chance to be a hifi-unit when you would connect a bass and a subwoofer up - no joke! ... or the a ITT Touring 109! Phantastic sounding bbox, but also here, no bass at all! It got a Hypersonic-button (a kind of stereo-wide) which sounds wow! Full stage also here ...
Some bboxes realy could be Hifi, no question to me ... if ... if they had more sub-bass ...
Best wishes
TOM
Specialy for you ...
And once again: I love this bbox ...!
Best wishes

Hi-Nice boombox!!
I love the illumination!
Really cool tuner section and overall excellent looking boombox.
Way to go-GB.
Hey, thanks to Hifitom for those nice pics.
Hifi or not, the SILVER is just great sounding.
About Hifi: Would for example a GRUNDIG RR1020 international or 1040 professional count as such?
They are also great sounding.
No
Only Hifi-bbox they have ever build is the Grundig Party Center 2000 hifi. One of the best bboxes ever ... get one, and you will hear what real Hifi means ...
Best wishes
TOM
Hey Roman,
I like your new Silver boombox. I saw some on ebay in the last month and was bidding on some but they sold too high for my taste. Good to know, that it´s a quality box.
About Grundig. I own active speakers from late seventies made by grundig.
This model. I love their sound. There is also a passiv version - if you need vintage speakers and don´t want to spend lots of money you should keep them in mind.
