Friends, it's been a while since I've posted new additions. Here are a few for now...I'll post more when I can. Enjoy.
Pioneer CK-3
Realistic 14-525 (CD-3300)
Panasonic RX-DS27
Sony CFD-765
Hitachi 3D88 (TRK-3D88HC)
Sony CFD-G35
JVC RC-QC7
JVC PC-XC30
And a few old faves...
Hey, just curious how does the CK-3 sounds?
Nice collection you've got there.
Thanks! The CK-3 sounds more like a home stereo than a boombox...very high quality, all seperate componants. Boat anchor weight too!
Very nice additions and not neglecting the more recent boombox era models! How does the Pana RX-DS27 sound?I know of one of my clients at work who has one.I might see if they will give it up.
What is your opinion of the Sony CFD-765?also,How many input watts rating on that one?I have the very similar CFD-757.
Which of the bottom shelf cobras sounds better? Is the black one a DS-16 or a DS-19?
Very nice finds!
The oldskool and the modern ones.
The 3D must be a hammer.

Thanks Jovie. I like to think of my self as an "equal opportunity collector"...that is, decent quality, modern era bbxs are welcome!
The RX-DS27 sounds amazing, considering the size of the unit. Bass and volume are more than adequate, when the bass-boost and power blaster amps are engaged. Plays very loud without distortion. The cd compartment is illuminated by two amber/green leds...kind of a cool touch when viewed in dim lighting. It is definitely worth going after. Good luck!
The CFD-765 is one sweet machine. Has a warm, rich sound overall, with deep bass and crisp, clear highs. The "space-sound" is quite remarkable, and gives a very realistic live sound quality effect, as well as expanding the sound stage. The rotary tone controls (bass/mega bass, mid-range and treble) have a nice feel, and provide a wide tonal range. I'll have to check the rating for you when i get home.
The cobras...black one is RX-DS28, and has the larger 4" drivers with BTL amps. Very powerful, with rich, clear sound. Output is 20w (10w + 10w). The silver is the RX-ES30, my first wedge...bought it new in '99. Output is 30w (15w + 15w). This line has the smaller 3" drivers than the DS line, but you wouldn't know it from listening. Panasonic engineering has done an amazing job of squeezing every last nuance of quality sound with the entire wedge/cobra product line up. I can't say enough about them. They really are surprising. As for which sounds better? I can't say...I love 'em both, and they are very close in terms of how they sound.
thanks for showing all these good finds --and your pioneer CK is tops/tops
Excellent collection! Love the Pioneer!
There is a Mona like yours on ebay right now!
hey JC -
JLF and i want to know about the Mona --
like 'how does it sound'?
and it it an AKA ?
thanks
Ira, the Mona sounds real nice...and is equipped with an unusual slider eq (and band spectrum is different than most). Yes, it is an A.K.A. model...there are a number of variations (I think Jens posted this before). Sorry, I can't recall the different badges.
ok - thanks alot
JLF saw it first --he has the dibs
C
L

Hi JC-I like your collection!
By the way isn't that Sony a CFD-G55?
I have one almost identical and it's a G-55.Maybe there is a G-35 which may be an earlier version?
It's my favorite for outdoor listening and my brothers shed(G-55).
It has a lit-up display which I really like.
Nice Pioneer also!
Have a great one-GB.
beautiful stuff there man ,especially the pioneer the ck series boxes are amazing !

Nice stuff Joe Cool! You really need to get your hands on one of those M-C11 power amps.
Then you can rock even harder!
Peace,
Paul Z.

Hi gb, and thanks!
Yes, the Sony is model G35. I believe it's an earlier version. There's a new model now that actually dwarfs this one. The newer versions have an illuminated ring around the subwoofer. Take a look at the G35 Australian model...cool blue, and transparent subwoofer baffle.
Thank you xavboxfrench, jvc floyd, Jaredscottfla, skippy 1969, and oldskool69 for your comments!

Thanks Johnny! They really new how to market stuff back then...those audio brochures were works of art!
The CK-3 sounds every bit as beautiful as it looks! A top shelf system for sure. I was blown away by the options available in the brochure.

Thanks Paul. I was thinking the same thing! I'm really impressed with what I've heard so far...and can only imagine what the M-C11 could do for it.
As promised, a few more...
Panasonic RX-C38
Sharp GX-CD75 (BK)
Panasonic RX-DS18
Sanyo MCD-S930
I like the looks of that DS18!!! NeAt!! Nice collection keeps looking better Joe!
Johnny
Thanks Johnny!

Hi JC-That's cool, mine has a red lit up button on top.The display lights up in red also.Does yours light up to?
That blue is way cool!
I have a newer G-500 and the acoustics are better and it's more powerful but it doesn't have the lit up display, just a lit up ring around the subwoofer.Good sounding unit, you can use the bass all the way without much distortion where as with my G-55 I can only use the sub at half for loud excursions.
Thanks-nice collection-GB.
Thanks gb. Yes, the button lights up, but not the display. The blue version is very cool...love the clear sub cover! Can you post pics of the 55 and 500?
ghettoboom777 - 2009-01-16 20:35
Hi JC-Yes there in the boombox collections page 2.I'll post link to it here.
I'm surprised that your does not light up the display.
The G-55 must be like the only model.
My CFD-S39 doesn't (1999)
The G-55 does! (2003')
The G-500 Does not (2005')
The new G550 or whatever it is X-Plod's they do not either.
I have an explanation I believe in the thread about the differences between these untis.
Have a great weekend-GB.
-----------------------------------------------
This is my Part 1.
I have many more and you wouldn't recognize my GF-777H now. It's been mostly restored!
But the Sony's are in there.
Sorry by photos aren't best-too much light-cheap camera.

Thanks gb! It's too bad Sony didn't light up the displays on the other models. It's a small detail, but I think it would have made a big difference. Oh well, they're still very cool models. I wonder why only the Austrailian model has the see-thru sub-woofer baffle?
I'm with you JC !!!!
Even if the BBX is modern (not old-school) if it sounds fine, its enough for meI think that the RX-Es30 is the best example.
Also de DT-680 look like a modern minisystem .. far from an oldschool BBX look .. but it sounds great.
But I really prefeer old school look defnitely.
Quite a few different versions arnt there?!
Great collection,
Joe Cool! I especially like that Pioneer!

That Panasonic is one of the very few boxes I remember from the late 80's/early 90's, with the XBS woofers and whatnot - I played with it in a store but can't remember what it sounds like... If I didn't already have a 931, I would've REALLY wanted one of those!
At the time, I thought that one box was enough for me... I wish I was more of a collector back then.
Thanks for sharing!
