So here is something for the experts!
A Sharp GF-9292x with another label below the standard Sharp label, indicating it as a Sampo, with its very own serial number?! Plenty of Asian script too... I imagine it is Chinese, but it could be Korean for all I know?
This is the box I picked up a week ago for only $150. What I feel is cheap for this, but probably close to real market value.
Auction shot:
I expected the worst when this very small box arrived! Hardly any bigger than the boombox itself! Yikes!
Another 'full horror' shot!
At this point, I realise it looks ok, other than being pig filthy! Now Im concerned about the innards, but nothing sounds broke off or loose.
Lovely isnt it? And it works! I went over it with a rag and Simple Green, and its STILL filthy! It needs a full detail.
Look at this photo.... The factory original cling says APSS. My other GF's that still have their original cling all say APLD. Anyone else have both of these? Or was APSS certain markets only?
Last but not least, the Sampo label!
Now, my only issue is this. It has 'Phono.' Not an actual 'Line In'.
When I hook it all up like I would a standard line in, it sounds horrible. I cant find a switch like many boxes have that say 'Line In/Phono'.
Is there a trick Im missing? Perhaps 9292's really dont have a line in as we know it?
Thanks!
Very nice Jeff!!
I really like that model.
says "made in Japan"
jeff -you need a $10 part ::

Info:
Sampo web site (December 2002): Sampo Corporation traces its roots back to 1936 when Mr. M.P. Chen and his brothers founded Tung Cheng Tang Electronics Company, forerunner of today's Sampo. In 1964, following a merger with Tung Hsin Electric Co., Ltd., the Company changed its name to Sampo Electrical Appliances Co., Ltd. At that time, it manufactured and distributed electrical home appliances, such as black and white TVs and refrigerator.
Throughout the 60s and 70s, Sampo's base in Taiwan grew with the prosperous economy. In 1969, a technology cooperation agreement was entered into with Sharp Corporation of Japan for the production of color TVs. Sharp then became the largest single shareholder of Sampo ever since. In 1970, Sampo was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. Four years later, the Company changed its name to Sampo Corporation.
During the late 70s and early 80s, Sampo continued to expand its production and distribution channels in Taiwan as well as establish liaison offices and branches overseas. As a leader in home appliance industry of Taiwan, Sampo created many new product milestones such as the introduction of Taiwan's first microcomputer-controlled air conditioner (1979), microcomputer-controlled television (1984), and microcomputer-controlled refrigerator(1985). Another glorious record that Sampo made was the successful penetration of Sampo's air conditioner into the tough Japanese market in 1987.
In order to diversify its business, Sampo began importing and selling Chrysler automobiles in 1989 and Rover automobiles in 1993.
By 1989, Sampo opened offices in the People's Republic of China (PRC) to oversee the sales and distribution of Sampo products. In 1993, Sampo became the first Taiwan consumer electronics company producing microwave ovens (Beijing) and washing machines (Tianjin) in Mainland China.
Today, Sampo is one of Taiwan's leading business groups. With three manufacturing facilities and numerous distribution outlets throughout Taiwan, four manufacturing facilities and distribution centers in the PRC, and affiliated businesses which provide synergy to Sampo's core business operations, Sampo remains an industry leader.
very cool - I like it a lot, I'm glad it is o.k. even with that packing job..
Awesome!
Thanks for the comments and the knowledge! Great history lesson!
I greatly appreciate that!
RBJ, looks like I'll be picking up that thing-a-ma-jig tomorrow first thing!
thats a very sweet and beautiful looking box one of my favorite sharps looks wise.
APLD = Auto Progran Locate Device
APSS = Auto Program Search System
The first can be programed to go forward and back to a song (recording) wanted.
The second, APSS, would only go to the next recording or the previous (FF or Rew)
Sharps that have APLD also will have some push buttons to chose how many recordings you wanted to jump... the max they semm to have had was/is 11 -correct me if I am wrong, please!
BUT NOW!!!!!!!!! on the GF 1000 there is APSS written on it with 11 push buttons to chose how many recordings you wanna jump.......
So, did they just put what ever they felt like putting on their Bboxes, or is APSS the only term they used for their domestic Bboxes......
Could some one look on their GF 777 or 767 see what they have on those, APSS or APLD..... Also, for those who have domestic Jap GF models..... Have a look what they use there....
Well until now it made sense, APSS and APLD where 2 different options but if the GF 1000 has/says both then thats just out of line !
My 777 has APLD
Yeah.... It has the APSS appellation with the APLD push button selection....
Glad it arrived in one piece Jeff. Looks good!
