Congratulations 2Steppa! The 9494 is a bloody classic ghettoblaster. It's my usual carry-around on the walk to work.
Hope you've get many years enjoyment from her!
Rock On.

hey i like the 9494 with the silver caps, the black caps makes it look dull, ancient and old looking, looks more funky now..The 9494 is my fave model of that range..to be honest,i think i prefer the 94 to the 96,maybe peeps will think i`m crazy, but i like the 94 better, less o.t.t..
Pretty clean machine!
Congrats to this big classic boomer.
Silver caps - you cheeky devil. If I'd known you were going to pimp it up...! Looks great mate - glad to have been able to hook you up
you got me looking at mine now thinking it looks dull with the black cones - lovin the chrome - at some point i will have to talk to you to see in time if i can do it to mine (not want to copy but it make it look sweeter)

yep..i`ve dont this before because the old caps were poked in and falling off..
steppa, did you change the bass or just change the caps ? how did you get the old caps off without ripping the bass ? what glue did you use ? i used just multi purpous glue on mine..
Hi Getto...
Just added caps to the original speakers.
Didn't take the old black caps off as they're quite low profile and the chrome ones sit nice and snug over the top with no gap at all - perfect.
I used bog standard super glue, a few TINY little dots around the black centre and then placed the cap gently over and let it dry for an hour before doing the other one. You'd never know even on closest inspection that these speakers didn't have chrome caps from new.

great box 2steppa, i didnt know that the 12w model has black caps, great job on the sliver ones
Cheers Geoff.
Yeah, looked a bit GF-9191 ish, which is fine but I had these caps amongst my bits and bobs just waiting for this kind of opportunity so this was a perfect candidate. Makes it look a bit more blingy and modern, and meatier too!
To be honest, for a 12w box it really thumps out the sound, must be a good 12 watts rms.
Well pleased with the result.

mine is the 22w model and has the silver caps,
silver looks much better
still in the process of cleaning 20 odd years of smoking room dirt of mine - better pic when done
Looking good though, and for a freebie that's just out of this world.
Is it fully working?
geoffhartwell - 2009-05-13 23:18
feeebie, even better
yup every thing working - and i've just finished cleaning her
- came out better then i thought as it looks near mint now - one tiny scuff mark on the bottom left side, but nothing that will show
a very happy bunny
you should of seen my big grin on my face as i walked home with it and the bmx - didn't mind carry it all that way - got home very tired (as i had also finished work - gardening in the hot sun that day ) but the first thing i did was get a plug and test it to see if it was working - an even bigger grin when it all worked - does any one else get like this
That's an incredible find, but to think someone was going to chuck it in the dump
Maybe that's indicative of the low esteem and value that the average joe holds for these machines... shame
there are some dumps that can sell to the public and some that are not allowed to - this one one that can't - but
i have good friends that don't have itchy backs
i did see one in there - never got a close look, twin ariel, silver - and thats all i got to see, as the top bosses where there are i can't touch when they turn up and can't put to the side out the way
so i don't knowwhat it was only it will go down as the "one that got away" this has happened a couple of times with bmxs
i dread to think how many great boxes have gone to the sky - well land fill anyway
Well the dump in Redhill never has a damn thing. You're getting lucky where you are!
DYNAMITE BOX!!! And I definately have Vivid Memories about this model because one of my good friends had one of these back in East Orange, NJ. You could hear it for BLOCKS!!! Unfortunately for him though, he was held up at Knife Point, and was Mugged for it!!!
He never bought another one either!!! Has been wearing Walkmans ever since.
Good Luck with it and Take Care of it
