A good day at the thrifts....

Couldn't resist this one for $15.

Sony CFD-444, Manufactured January 1988:

It's even still got a sticker:

..and batteries were included! (Not exactly fresh, though):

These probably were bought at the same time as the unit! (A little battery compartment cleaning was in order...)

Everything functions as it should...a scuff here and a scratch there, otherwise quite nice.

Nice Sony-I like the CFD series too.

Have you listend to it yet?

Yup...she's pretty loud, but a little bass shy (small 4" speakers, but they are pumping their little guts out). Never seems to lose it's composure though. The EQ helps tame the treble somewhat.

Nice it didn't really need any work (just the usual cleaning). The only problem I could find was when you remove the power cord, the radio doesn't always switch over to battery power. Probably just need to clean the switch.

I love this oldskool units with CD! Nod Yes

Wow, I wonder who owned this one? This unit is immaculate, and the sticker adds to the cool factor for sure...I was surprised that the batteries hadn't leaked after being in there so long Eek

It looks like a Japanese model, which had great quality. When the Chinese stuff came out in the early 2000's, I noticed the quality control just wasn't there....

For 15$, you definitely did well. That reminds me of the monster JVC I got at the Thriftstore for 12$. I couldn't resist, but the CD player didn't spin Frown Oh well, it was cheap, right?

Congrats on the find!

Actually there was some minor battery leakage (2 batteries) only affecting one of the battery contacts....and you are correct, sir...made in Japan.

It's condition was a nice change from the usual stuff I find (usually covered in drywall dust or splattered with paint).

For me this was worth 15 bucks in fun alone.
