Hi everyone-I was at Goodwill again today and they were just putting stuff out and this guy says-Hey check this out.
It's an Aiwa boombox CSD-ES60.This thing is nice!
It has front surround speakers that are on top!
It also has a sound equalizer and bass boost and surround controls.
Everything works!
It only had a bent aerial.
It was 9.99-exspensive!
Just kidding!
It really is nice and heavy (well built)
I'm getting so now I'm being picky-only high-end boxes and old classics from now on.
I can't believe how many boxes I've accumulated in the last 2 months!!
Have a great week-Ghettoboom777.
Aiwa boxes were still pretty nice before Sony decided to remake the brand. That happened a few years after Sony acquired the company.Aiwa in general seemed to try to produce some unique boxes. In the late 90's I bought an Aiwa egg that was pretty loud.Everyone at work seemed to like to use it for this reason.Eventually it was carelessly knocked off a shelf, hit the floor, and ended up in disrepair.I subsequently bought a couple of used later model Aiwas from thriftstores myself.I've found them to be louder and cleaner sounding than other brands produced at the same time. One of these is cylindrical in shape and has 6 speakers pointing in every direction. My sister uses it on her kitchen island to listen to AM.She likes the fact that you get direct sound from it no matter where she happens to be in the room.I also got a completely new 3 piece Aiwa from goodwill. It is unusually loud and has a very effective Q-sound spacial enhancement feature. At one time I happened upon a really nice Aiwa egg/cobra styled box that was pretty sleek.I really liked its white speaker cones.Unfortunately,I decided to let another admiring shopper buy it as I was running out of space at home.
Even in the '90s when I saw boomboxes new in stores,I secretly desired to have one of each. This however would have been financially impossible. For this very reason it's easy to get excited about any new condition boxes you find at Goodwill. As lovers of boomboxes in general its very tempting to buy them from thriftstores as it is economically feasible buy pretty much anything you see...and in volume. The problem with this becomes a lack of space at home.Even though every box is a new experience to us we are eventually forced to find homes for some of them.It doesn't help things that post classic era boxes generate no excitement on Ebay. This eventually causes us to scrutinize our potential purchases more closely. After all,no one actually needs more than 1 boombox. However for me its always hard to pass on an Aiwa.Actually this is proven by the fact that I never actually have! Will I in the future?Definitely as I must be practical.
Congrats on your ES-60.Be sure to use all your boomers in rotation for a new experience every day.Post a picture if you can also.BTW,just how many boomboxes have you accumulated thus far?
I still have yet to find one of these things!!!
I really want to hear how they sound, because I can hardly believe how much everyone loves them!
I know theres got to be something to it!

Hi Jovie-Thanks for your reply.
Yest this is my first Aiwa-I really like the sound and like I said it's not totally like an egg. It's a little longer like (oblong) and it has I think 4 speakers at least. It's loud and the sound quality is great!
I even gave it a light coat of Armor All and shined it all up and have bought new Duracells which I'm putting in it today. It's nice!
As far as photos-I'm taking photos and unfortunately will have to wait until next week to show you all.
I'm taking photos of all of my boxes-good ones this time!
I'm getting more picky now in my collectiong, getting more quality boomboxes and older classic ones now.
Too many eggs spoil the broth!
As far as how may I have-Like Fatdog days:"If you know how many you have you don't have enough"
Well it's seriously getting to that point, well not really-30-40 now!
There boxes everywhere I look and now they're accumulating in the closet to!
I had an egg fall of of my cassette cases the other night-that's when you know your getting somewhere!
But as far as having too many-now way!
I'm going to get to that magical 100 mark within a couple of years then maybe I will taper off or stop even?
I love this hobby as I have been collection and working on radios all of my life or since I was 5 and had my first transistor radio!
Have to go but thank you for informing me about the Aiwa's-I love mine!
Have a great Halloween and a great week-Ghettoboom777.
