I would love to find a transparent coloured lacquer type paint,i would definately be experimenting with some of my rougher less purfect boxes,if it worked maybe we could start jazzing up some other nice boxes

If you want transparent paints have a look at R/C hobby stores, it was quite a popular thing to spray the chrome midnight pumpkin shells when the re-realese happened.

Not sure if theres a automotive version of the shelf avalible as that would proberly be harder wearing.

I came across a paint that was 99.9% Sharp grey!!! Here is the info:
