Nordmende also sold a re-badged JVC RC838 with the addition of FM preset buttons, so it is a better box than the JVC, yet people still insist on paying 3 times as much for the JVC.

but JVC 838 looks 5 times better.

this is the real classic and masterpiece in the boomboxes world.

who cares Nordmende has FM preset, if it looks ugly.

Agree with you, 838 sounds not so good, but wait a minute - Nordmende has the same innards, and I presume sounds the same - awful.
So, what does make you think "it is a better box than the JVC", horrible faceplate or just  plastic grilles, cause they don't let you see the color of the speakers ? 

OK fine, the JVC looks better, but $200-300 better?  I think not.

I think it's the whole JVC heritage & connection to U.S. street culture that draws people to it.
