Mint JVC M90

vincent - 2012-09-29 06:55

Ok. I bought this off Norman a couple weeks ago. Didnt know until after purchase that I was buying from a gem of a person. This unit is absolutely mint, and just as he said it does not look like anyone used it. It looks brand new (no idea why the power button area has some paint peel off). But no dust or signs of use whatsoever. The sound is simply spectacular. I guess the speakers are still brand new. Everything works.

And it was packaged so well! Original box, remote, user manual, cassette. the whole works.

Here is a pic. Norman said he would replace belts for a year if I ever have problems. But i doubt it. The cassette player works like new on all my tapes.

Please dont comment on the price. I am adding this to my JVC M70, JVC 550, and Aiwa 880. Do not plan on selling or trading ever. I enjoy music, and I listen to my itunes library connected remotely to the M90 through airport express.

As the hundreds of pros and advanced members in this forum know, an M90 in this condition is not easy to locate even if one is willing to pay a large sum.

great buy , vincent -

litfan - 2012-09-29 08:11

Yeah, nice one. Nevermind the price. Unless, there`s a new, boxed one, lying around somewhere. This is probably the best one in existence. Watch the value rise.

stereo.mad - 2012-09-29 08:11

Stunning m90 well done it would be a keeper to me to!
I'm wondering if it has been restored as the speakers look to blue and are shiny?

litfan - 2012-09-29 08:32

Nah. That`s how they looked, when new. They have like an acrylic finish.

samovar - 2012-09-29 08:41

Congrats Vincent on getting a nice unit. My speakers are nice and blue like yours along with being minty fresh.

superduper - 2012-09-29 11:35

I want to say that nobody could wish for a better buyer or a better transaction.  Congrats Vincent -- you deserve it, and like I said...  take good care of it because it will make an excellent investment.  You have something that 99% of the collecting community only wish they had.  It will only get rarer over time and likely much more valuable.  As for the paint peel on the power button area ....  one thing I will say is that if you ever find a beater with an otherwise good trim around the button, that trim is a separate piece and can be swapped making this example 99.5% mint.  Also, keep in mind that naysayers and skeptics abound in any forum.  Ignore them.  You already own some really nice and rare boomboxes and like most collectors, probably know what restored ones look like, and good unused ones look like.  We both have seen this example in person and I think we both agree that this thing really is like new, not a restoration, and certainly, used very very little.

@ Stereo Mad:  All M90's were manufactured with a specially treated woofer.  They start with a blue paper cone like on the M70's.  To that, they laminate polyerethane over the front side only.  As you know, polyurethane is like plastic so new woofers do shine.  In fact, if you ever remove an M90 speaker to clean, you will see that you can actually clean the front side with water and it will bead and clean well.  When they get coated with dust, or they deteriorate from sun exposure or ozone, or whatever, they will lose their luster.  There is some disagreements over color of the woofers, whether they were all blue only when new or whether there were different color versions.  My personal feeling is that the polyurethane coating came in either clear (blue showing through) or dark grey (makes it look dark grey or black) but some others disagree.

Thanks all so much. yes i am very happy and enjoying this box a lot! Appreciate all the kind words.

litfan - 2012-09-29 15:20

That`s coz it`s NOS. I like boxes, to have looked slightly used. I would never use that one vincent won. I was the same, with a NOS hitachi 8600 i won. Didn`t use it. It was stood 8 months, then, tape wouldn`t work.

docs - 2012-09-29 15:20

Mint means mint, a million inch screen won't change that.

radio.raheem - 2012-09-29 15:29

i can see all the dust on your m90 speakers docs belive me

docs - 2012-09-29 15:33

Lol, I'll get the duster out, will it be mint then ?

radio.raheem - 2012-09-29 15:41

lav.loo - 2012-09-29 15:51

not trying to upset the applecart here Reno but if you seen Daves m90 in the flesh you would be blown away, it is like new, you could not possibly get a better example.

driptip - 2012-09-29 17:21

hold your horses lad!

my comment was a question rather than a dig!....i have two m90's, one with speaker upgrades that are blue and the other that has the original speakers but have faded, also i have a mint and i mean mint m70 with perfect blue speakers but none of these boxes have a shine to there speakers so i was just curious!

litfan - 2012-09-30 08:38

Do ya know. I knew, before i posted that pic, that AO would have a dig. Anyway, cris lad, you`ve took a swipe at peoples home furnishings over the years, mine included ( some, admittedly deserved). Let`s have a pictorial tour, of chez orange. That is, if the wife will let you .

brutus442 - 2012-09-30 13:58

Vincent you lucked out man, not just getting a minty M90 but dealing with Norm, whose reputation here and elsewhere is patinum.

Congrats to both for the great transaction. It reminds us that for all the negative E-bay sales there's those stellar ones..and this post is proof of that!

Now back to more pics...

superduper - 2012-09-30 15:25

@ Stereo Mad:

No problem.  Your post was not taken as a dig.   The info was offered so you would understand why M90 speakers have a shine to them.  The M90 cones are just like the M70 when viewed from the non-coated backside.  But the front has a plastic coating.  Just thought I'd explain that little fact.  And so, YES, your post was taken as a question and that was the answer.

Thanks!! Appreciate it. The boombox is very good, and I did use an Canon SLR with a macro lens for the picture - macro lenses are great for bringing out the details - very sharp.
