AKAI PJ-W30 w/4 speakers outside ROTATE

I think I got very lucky with this find off eBay. It was a total dirty dusty mess in the auction photos but close look seem to show it minty underneath. After MUCH cleaning am happy to report the small midsize ROBOT looking Akai is near mint cosmetically and works fantastic with Radio and AUX input tested Walkman and CD player. Both cassette decks motors work but belts broke. Anyone know if putting belts on this is easy or tough job? Appears as if this baby from new mostly just sat on a basement shelf without cover. Actually have been looking for a silver one of these (comes in black and possibly titanium) since my first year of Walkman collecting when I happened upon the Akai PJ-C7 with detachable Walkman. Lost the bid on that from Germany went for over $130 but upon research back then fell on this gem with the great looking rotating speakers and distinctive main box design with controls mostly on the outboard panel coming outward at bottom of box and awesome rotary dials. Saw few on eBay over years most all were in bad condition, problems or speakers were drooping. Took a lot of pics to show off this unique boomer.
PERFORMANCE
As for sound the rotating speakers REALLY make a difference when on floor or table when you rotate upward the high tones really pick up! Outer speakers or continuously variable with a medium and high angle click stops. Speakers are detachable by sliding upward on speaker they have 5 ft. of cord each with a nice std. headphone type pin to jack on back of main box. Outer speaker boxes have open meshed square small port back of speakers. Has very good quality mid, vocals and highs for this size box but even with 5 Band EQ bass pushed its not a bass pounder at all. It appears to be of high quality build and specs I found show 5 watts RMS/CH the amp must be clean powered even though not powerful as at only 4 out of 10 on volume this baby is loud already! It weighs in at 10.5 pounds without the 8 D batteries. Believe it was built in 1985/1986 the heyday of booming

This Aiwa as a very unusual design, but I like it. Do the center woofers produce the lower frequencies, or are they all full range?

Thanks for the posts and pix! I've had an AKAI PJ-15 since getting it new about 30 years ago. Overall it remains in good working order tho the cassette belts are a bit sticky. The analogue display radio tuner works better than many newer digital boombox displays that seem to fade and give up over time. While living light in the '80s I used it as stereo sound for my mono television -- I put it on top of a tv with the "free angle" speakers tilted to taste. Now I use it in the master bedroom bathroom as a separate AM-FM-WB radio (connected to a rooftop shortwave antenna together with several other WB receivers via a switch) and, through the stereo mic plug, as an extension of the bedroom home theater as additional speakers (along with a small subwoofer a co-worker left for dead) for a 15" Zenith lcd flat panel tv monitor by the sink and a 5" Radio Shack Optimus TFT Display in the shower. I can still tilt the speakers to make it look as wild as I like and with the sub-woofer it can make the building vibrate.
I just purchased an AKAI PJ-W30 through ebay for the kitchen table as a match - to be similarly connected to the den home theater (an early Pioneer Dolby Digital receiver, along with an AKAI AA-R22 I've also had for 3 decades) and the rooftop shortwave antenna, to replace a DAK boombox who's digital tuner is on the fritz (and can't be connected to the other components) - due to its good design, similarity to the smaller PJ-15 and their apparent durability.

Your PJ-W30 looks great. I picked mine up from a market here in Sydney for just $15AUS.. I hope to get mine looking as clean as yours does. I'll read through this site for tips on how to clean it up.
