elektroneko - 2012-11-21 14:18

Hello everybody,

I'm ElektroNeko (real name Tobi) a starting collector from The Netherlands. I've got four (five if you count my shitty egg) of them, and here they are (Click on them for more pictures of it):

And my two walkmans:

And here is a picture from me, holding my Sanwa:

If you want to know more about me, you can check my tumblr, or just ask here ;3

bison - 2012-11-21 14:23

welcome to the forum Tobi

lav.loo - 2012-11-21 14:25

firstly nice boxes electroneko, secondly.....welcome to the nuthouse

deech - 2012-11-21 14:33

Welcome Tobi great to see new members!

I like the yellow philips of yours! Are you from Eidhoven?

retro - 2012-11-21 16:20

Welcome to the forum Tobi, the Phillips with the logo on the handle is a new one to me, what's the model number?

elektroneko - 2012-11-21 16:30

@deech: Nope. I'm from shitty ol' Heerenveen...

@retro: It's the "Philips AW 7892" with antenna socket. A variant of it is the "AW 7890" without antenna socket but with voltage selector ;3

retro - 2012-11-21 16:45

Thanks for the info Tobi.

panasonic.fan - 2012-11-21 19:08

Welcome to the forum, Tobi. Great to see Netherlands representing here

driptip - 2012-11-21 19:24

ao - 2012-11-21 22:12

Ha, nothing gets this lot's attention like a female in the room <sucks stomach in>

Some interesting late 80's colours and styles here.  Love the autumnal shots of shitty Holland

isolator42 - 2012-11-21 23:08

Hi Tobi & welcome to s2g

We have another Dutch member on here: Walkgirl...

Philips were big in the Netherlands.

I reckon we need to see the 'sh1tty egg'

If you hang around here more than 5 minutes, I reckon your boombox collection will grow...

davebush - 2012-11-21 23:19

Hello from Sunny Blackpool UK........

thafuzz - 2012-11-21 23:29

Welcome aboard Tobi. Interesting collection.

I've seen Walkgirl's profile ;3. I'll simply wait until she speaks to me :3

Yep, Philips is a Dutch brand after all. I've got mixed feeling about Philips to be honest. Those that I have were very cheap, and the big one also sound kinda hollow when playing music other then classical. The yellow Philips is a instant favorite for everyone ;3

I'll shoot some pictures of the 'shitty egg' when I'm up to it ;3. For now: The brand is "Nicholson".

For the rest: Thanks everybody! X3

lav.loo - 2012-11-22 05:25

this philips won't dissapoint you Tobi, it's the d8614 sound machine, sound is fantastic, looks cool too.

if you ever get the chance grab one, they usually go cheap on epay, it has all the whistles and bells too, line in also.

On top that it sounds quite poor, they break down quite fast. The spring of the CD player is broken and the antenna too. A friend of mine has one with a busted cassette player: The keys are stuck and the thing goes haywire when you put it in tape mode. On top of that: They are way more heavy then they should be...

It was the very first boombox I owned. Got it for my birthday long ago. The first one I really bought myself was the Sanwa.

I already kind of had my eyes on that one. I'll first save up some money for other things ;3

Yes, you'll need plenty of money for cassettes and batteries.

It's something unrelated to ghettoblasters. But you might eventually see pictures of it on here... ;P

If you know what my nickname means, you might find out what :3

Most items in this thread belongs in something usually found in most people kitchen and goes outside once it's full.

Almost tempted to sent this member a walkman out of my personal collection, just to get them started on the right track for free, shipping included!!

Can't really argue with that. You really don't want to hear the 'big' Philips ;P

Almost? Well, that's almost very nice of you ;P

nickfish - 2012-11-22 06:29

How about we all have a whip round to send her a nice box as long as she posts a video of her smashing the Nicholson thing to pieces with a hammer?

BTW; Hello and welcome.

Sounds like a reasonable deal, just hope she will take to it.

To be honest: I'm not going to do that. Firstly because I don't know you guys. Secondly, because there might be someone who'd like to have it.

So sorry guys. No cats rampaging on eggs...

ao - 2012-11-22 07:05

Let's be fair, every good collection has to start somewhere, I can think of a few horrors some of this lot started with, mine wasn't even stereo.

A lot of collectors have found great boomboxes in Holland and you've got the great untapped resource that is eBay.de just over the border (or two?).

I just wish other members would take the plunge and introduce themselves like you have.  You'll discover that we're a good bunch, some are very strange characters but mostly we have our hearts in the right place.

yep...what he said

been to Holland a few times...done the usual Amsterdam thing but also drove round various parts including Edam (the only town name I remember!) and thought it was a pretty nice place.  My brother-in-law married a Dutch girl and got married in Amsterdam.  Do you have the same Dutch condition that his wife has?...she always says it like it is...so if you're looking like crap she'll tell you, or if you give her a present and she doesn't like it she'll say no thank you and give it back.  Cracks us up what she says sometimes!

anyway, welcome to the forum, you'll find the vast majority of members to be some of the nicest most helpful people you could meet, in my experience anyway as a relative newbie myself.

retrodos - 2012-11-22 07:24

BTW; Almost forgot, Hello and welcome to this forum, I go by "retropcdos", normally everywhere else online, but someone took that name here. So settle for what I could take. Real name Maurice.

Known as one of the technicians around here and few other sites,  also have a youtube channel on various repairs on vintage electronics. The best electronics came from 70's and 80's era, when engineers were more in charge. Now it about profit margins.

BTW; sure you don't want to take that offer?

Thats a nice walkman for a freebie!

nickfish - 2012-11-22 07:29

Absolutely true what the other guys said. I was only joking; and after all Tobi herself said that the egg was 'sh1tty'!

Would have been very funny to see though.

If you seriously want to send it over from the US to NL, I'll gladly take it ;3.

This forum doesn't seem to have a PM system. Can I send you a e-mail?

retro - 2012-11-22 07:48

Click on "Dialogs" in the upper right hand corner and select the member you would like to PM, or you can simply click on the gingerbread next to the member's avatar.

Hi Toni welcome to stg, hope you got deep pockets as this hobby gets dam expensive when the bug takes hold!

johnedward - 2012-11-22 19:06

Greetings Tobi, good start and you are in the right place to share and learn more about  portable stereo.  So right Cris I remember a few of my first Walkman... loved your term "LAND FILL"  so politely British   Quite right about expensive hobby Boomers are vs. Walkman.  I just started into the BBX side of collecting myself in past few months.

Your yellow Phillips I have the matching Walkman in yellow also but it looks to have been dragged around the parking lot a bit .  Enjoy the fun madhouse here.

I too am very surprised Walkgirl Nicole has not jumped in to say hi.  She is a VERY active long time member here.  Though I think Nicole's passion is in Walkman not Boomboxes.

brutus442 - 2012-11-23 18:49

Welcome to S2Go Tobi. Great introduction BTW!
