I said I'd dig the box and paperwork out of the loft for my 3D7...so here it is!
Forgotten I had the sticker for the front too
The only thing I seem to be missing is the polystyrene as the ends I got don't seem quite right but I might just be putting them on wrong lol
Anyway it's all working perfectly and not a mark on it apart from a couple on the handle...hope you like
one of the nicer 3d boxes with clean right angles, huge center woofer dust cap aswell, it's a beaut Si great find mate
Thanks Az. It's not bad is it
That is nice si very nice.....just on a bit of a downer im sure my panna's gunna be trashed...when you see members boxes like stereomad's get trashed and he packs like a pro....400 quid on ebay ehh...what chance have i got.....thanks for showing us lad
Think positive mate, it'll be fine I'm sure. I've had some really crappily packages sent to me but so far none of my boxes have been damaged. Just gotta hope the seller has a brain and then hope for the best...there's nowt that can be done about it so worrying doesn't help...I've got my fingers crossed for your grail mate. It'll take a while tho I guess

Thats nice Si, is this a box you bought new back in the day?
I bet it still has that new box smell
Thanks for the peek Northerner!
nice unit, specially in that condition, congrats northerner.
Agreed one of the best of Hitachi's 3D BBX's. Love the totally classic shape corner boxy shape and the look too. For what it is I hear these sound excellent for its day. Mighty lucky man you are to have such a mint one all working AND the BOX..... !!
Thanks for the comments
I actually have my wife to thanks for this one. When I started this madness I got my teenage box (a crappy Sharp GF4646). About a week or so later my lovely wife was out shopping in a nearby town and popped into a few charity shops. She rang me to say she'd seen one of those 'big radios' but couldn't tell me much about it. I said go for it why not, and that's really how I started collecting as when she brought it home I thought wow that's more like it!!
Shan't mention how little she paid for it!
it was a present so would be impolite lol
Original and the best 3d

I was wondering the same thing Deech. It does has the late 80's look to it. Less chrome, black on black chassis... and quite a departure from conventional box design.
It's about 1985 I'm led to believe
the 3d8 came out in 87 so i'm guessing round that time, I'm sure ISO will let us know
Believe it or not, the 3D7 was first on sale in 1984 (as the TRK7620) & carried on as the 3D7 until 1987.
It was different from most other boomers back then; the colour & styling, the compact shape, the extra woofer, & the relatively cheap price. I was captivated by the big, silver dustcap on the centre woofer & how far it moved...
I knew you would jump on this ISO, do you have the 3d7? or is that a silly question
Yeh turn the volume up and that centre speaker really bounces...the big chrome dust cap makes it really noticeable how far it moves
I'm glad it's earlier rather than later as practically every box I like best is 79 to 81
Bought a 3D7 brand new in 1987 & still have the very one.
I found the story in an old post:

After getting interested in portable music with various cassette recorders & mono radio cassettes, one summer evening in the mid 80s, a couple of lads walking toward me had a stereo boombox blasting. It sounded so clear, I was instantly smitten.
As soon as funds allowed I bought my first stereo boombox a 3wpc Philips D8132 for £50 from BHS of all places. Man I loved it, especially as it only needed 4 D-cells (which I already had in my pushbike lights).
I wangled an upgrade to the more impressive looking D8134 with it's 5wpc (wooh) & a headphone socket for nighttime listening to Mike Allen on Capital Radio (I've still got loads of tapes I made of those shows).
As time wore on, my friends were getting bigger & better boomboxes... Philips D8438, Sharp GF450, Sharp QT37, etc. Nothing very expensive, but none of us were exactly rich. I needed an upgrade & countless hours fiddling with boomboxes in Dixons, Laskeys, etc. told me that the Hitachi with the 3D Super Woofer (the 3D7) gave me alot of boom for my money (big & loud Aiwas, JVCs, Pioneers etc. were all way too much).
By the time I'd save up enough, it was discontinued, so I chose it's replacement, the 3D8. I went into Boots, and they accidentally pulled an old 3D7 from stock. It was a discontinued model so they threw in a discount. I was over the moon!
At last I had the loudest boombox around. It actually had some bass & the batteries lasted for ages. I know at least two other people that sought out old stock of the exact same boombox having heard mine.
All of this happened 1984-87 while riding the roller-coaster that was adolescence, with the clothes, the girls, the parties, the alcohol, the music... aah, wonderful memories, and boomboxes are intertwined with so many of them.
The boombox was a part of the culture back then, as was the walkman too. I wonder if my kids will remember their iPods with such affection?
1984!! Wow!! Thanks ISO!
Hitachi was ahead of their time when it came to design!
