hi guys,before the next major review next week i thought id do another for you this week,its another one of dels old boxes and im very proud of this one!once again,review first then a couple of pics to show you what it looks like
OVERVIEW
the cw 50 is a small,just above the normal slimline mini size of box,with detachable speakers,dating to approximately 1986.
BUILD QUALITY +++++
This has always be en one of panasonics major plus points,and the 50 is no exception.everything is so very well put together in such a small package,and although its not a dead weight its no featherweight either,which is also a sign of quality.
SWITCH GEAR ++++
The 50 is equipped with very good switchgear that performs well and precise,despite the fact everything is in minature and can be sometimes a hindrance to somebody like me with big thumbs and fingers lol,but its not a complaint,not by a long way.
EQUIPMENT ++++
the 50 is well equipped,for what i would imagine was a low to mid range model in its day....it has 5 band eq,twin decks,metal tape capability and fast tape to tape dubbing amongst some of its qualities so it has plenty going for it has this one.
SOUND QUALITY +++++
for such a small unit,with small speakers,the 50 knows how to rock-the bass is at a great level with the eq set in the v position,and this unit can go very loud indeed.just shows you dont need massive speakers to make a great big sound.treble is well catered for too,if you prefer your music with less thump-all together a very pleasing sound!
OVERALL +++++
i have to award it the full 5 crosses as there is very little to diss this unit,apart frfom the fact the switch gear could have done with being that little bit larger,but to do this would mean the whole unit would have to be larger,and this im guessing isnt where panasonic wanted to go at the time!
now onto the pics,borrowed of course....hope you enjoyed the reading!

Andy I concur 100% with your review. I have the RX-C50 which has few differences actually. Only one deck which is obvious but the C50 only has Treble and Bass EQ ability and several of the switches are more conveniently located on the top. For its size its a hefty weight especially with batteries in. The RX-C45 is probably my most used BBX because of its easier size to pick up move around and its well above sound quality and ability to play loud outside for its medium size. My thanks to Redbenjoe when I was over at his home auditioning hundreds of BBX's WOW great afternoon. The RX-C50 caught my eye as I especially love the mini's which are largest part of collection and IRA recommended it as a excellent box.
On a side note the speaker boxes on this box are super heavy for their size. I was most surprised as they are one of the heaviest of any speaker box alone I have. Would be interesting to open up and see whats inside. The size of woofer magnet must be very large my guess.

Just weighed the C50 with batteries it is over 11 pounds (5 kg) !! And ONE SPEAKER weighs over 2 pounds (1 kg) Each! Impressive build quality for a box that is only
17 in X 6.5 in X 5 in ( Width/Depth/Height)
6.7 cm X 2.6 cm X 2 cm

Just realized looking at the CW50 it does not have a power LED indicator. The C50 has a great 5 level twin LED indicator per level 3 green and 2 red on front panel. Really nice touch on such a small box. One of the advantages of just having single cassette more features can be put in box.
Know from reading a post on Boomboxery of member that had his C50 repaired that the amplifier is same as in the much larger C45 which is very well powered making the C50 to have plenty of clean power more than most mini boxes. Guy repairing said it was total overkill the amp in the C50 and a quality chip set as i remember. Also mentioned the amplifier in the C50 had a limiter to match max power to speakers but still big advantage at any listening volume the much better quality sound/low distortion level afforded by the over powered amp at any volume.
