SuperTech J-747S
michiel - 2013-08-25 05:27
Okay Guys, finally I got lucky again with finding a nice cheap project box! This morning I got this very big SuperTech J-747S boomer for 15 euros from the local auction site
Its not missing any parts, except for broken antennas. Radio still works great, so no major flaws in it. Buttons and sliders needs some good cleaning, its crackling. Didn't try a tape yet, but the spindles are going. Although the B tape decks looks like its spinning twice its normal speed.
This is going to be a rewarding cleaning and fixing job for sure . Will post pics when I'm done.
Does anyone know what the "sensor security system" is? And how it works? It doesn't seem to do much, but I've got no idea what it should do.
lav.loo - 2013-08-25 07:43
That's a cracking steal for 15 euros Michiel think the sensor security system could be some sort of burglar alarm? I know the conion c100f has one so maybe this does look forward to final pics
michiel - 2013-08-25 08:30
In de process of cleaning at the mo, man this thing is BIG Its a beauty underneath the dust! Yep, it's a steal for sure! Very happy with it! Only issue I can find is tape B going twice at fast. No idea what's wrong with it, but I suspect a motor issue again. It has the same system of speed control as my HK-9000 and that has an ic in the motor. Well, tape A is working flawlessly
Found out about that security thing! So cool! You push the security switch. You leave the box alone. After something like a minute you walk in front of it and a loud sirene starts! The coolest feature I've ever seen on a box!
smeats1976 - 2013-08-25 08:38
Well done for getting another nice looking bling box so cheap Michiel! this local auction site sounds like a little gold mine!
walkgirl - 2013-08-25 08:48
Nog meer
michiel - 2013-08-25 11:25
That site is okay, but most of the time it's eggs and small Philips boxes. Sometimes a good one pops up and than you have to be ready It's also more personal as I'm getting the boxes in person. Like it, because you get to know the story and person behind a box. This one was from a nice lady who bought it new because she fell in love with it when she saw it in a shop back then. So I'm the second owner
Yep, Nicolle... How many Walkmans did you have? Lol
The radio is getting cooler every minute. Now it's darker I discovered the radio scale is lit! She sound really good to! Kinda trc-931 like. Can for sure recommend this beast!

Are you starting to warm to these late 80s black boxes Northerner?
smeats1976 - 2013-08-25 12:51
I COULD NOT OWN ONE OF THESE...............................
WITHOUT BEING TEMPTED.................
To buy a sh*t load of D Cells, Whack in a Public Enemy tape with fight the power on loop, crank up the volume loud then carry it around untill I found a group of Puerto ricans to have a sound off with! (which may take some time in Scotland)
michiel - 2013-08-25 12:54
Thanks! Funny, some days ago we were talking about big flashy boxes with lots of LEDs. And this is one of them! Those LEDs above the speakers are really bright and big! You should get one! It's build quality is also much better than the Audio Sonic or Lasonic. You will like it!
michiel - 2013-08-25 13:00
Lol, I could try to find puertoricans here. Pretty sure they are around here somewhere. That's indeed the same box! Called Promax? Only this one is with clock and without security thingy. Mine actually has a empty compartment in the back for the aa clock batt!
northerner - 2013-08-25 13:19
michiel - 2013-08-25 13:24
Do you guys know if this is the largest one? Can't imagine there are larger boxes than this monster!
bison - 2013-08-25 13:40
gotta love the J747jumbo..shite build quality etc but who cares it rocked in do the right thing so its the daddy of all the other big black late eighties boxes, you can just carry one turned off and still cause a stir

had two
sold two
they're good for making money them boxes
15 euros was a steal
michiel - 2013-08-26 04:01
This is going to be a keeper I think. It looks awsome on the wall. Only problem is that it makes all other boxes very small like little toys lol
claret.badger - 2013-08-26 06:08
motion sensor alarm works as a proximity alarm
press it and wait 30 seconds - then move your hands near the sensor
beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!

congrats Michiel on such a great find.

Si they still rock,if it was crammed like an m70 you would need arms like a body builder to lift it,bit suspect on the build quality side too but all the big black boxes are
michiel - 2013-08-29 14:09
Lol, I'm beginning to get used to these empty boxes It's easy to work on, thats a real advantage. On the other side it's very fragile inside so easy to break something. It feels it has the same weight as the M70.
Got it completely working by now. New belts, both decks running right on time at normal and high speed. Completely cleaned it from the inside and outside. People think its new
And Bison is right, you don't have to turn this box on to cause a stir Walking outside people start smiling immediately and they can't keep there eyes of it. They get very excited only by the looks of it
Have to admid I'm not impressed by its sound. The Lasonic wins easely in loudness and the bass department.
Got a BBQ with it tommorrow and hope to make some nice pics of the finished box Still very happy with it. Try to get one Northerner!

Well, maybe docs throws one in the boombox lottery?
bison - 2013-08-29 14:59
wish id paid 15 euros for mine
you dont see them in the uk,germany has loads but they are fragile..i got lucky getting one off a member
michiel - 2013-08-31 14:16
Whooo, this box loves d cells! Had it blasting full power yesterday for 4 hours on an ipod and it completely emptied my rechargeables! Nice thing, nothing broke... No burned out amplifiers or anything Forgot to make pics tho
Yep, shipping this box isn't a real good idea. Even if its packed properly, there is always the risc of the transformer breaking of its feet. The innards are fragile in this thing. They are regulary found on eBay Germany indeed. I expected them to be cheap in the us too, but saw one go for big money, $850, yesterday!

I have just recieved a Lasonic 975 from America and this is exactly what has happened!
I put the transformer back into place with longer screws and had a quick look for any damage but it won't power up on mains though it works fine on a 15v DC supply. It was suprised it arrived in one piece looking great as it not packed well, it was in a thin cardboard box with one tiny layer of bubble wrap! I am going to have a better look with a multi meter on Sunday!

brutus442 - 2013-09-20 08:04
You out did yourself Michiel. It looks brand NEW!
well done!...I really never appreciated how big these beasts were until I saw the M70 compar picture.
smeats1976 - 2013-09-20 08:59
Looks great Michiel After getting the Jumbo Lasonic I NEED more big black boxes!!
michiel - 2013-09-20 11:28
Thanks guys, the box itself was just a great one! Only removed lots of dirt and dust. The body itself isn't painted so it doesnt scratch bad like the painted glossy ones. 931 for instance.
Smeats I thought the black ones were stupid boxes too, but now I got some I like them very much! They are so hugh! Hope to find more of them!
