so on the post in the sightings section there is a pc55 video where the maker of the video says jvc is thinking about bring back the pc55 in a updated form.
anyone else hear about this rumour.
That would be nice , but i don't think they can do better than the original stuff
Not heard any rumours, but, considering the most recent "flops", (TEAC, and Lasonic) I would'nt hold my breath for any serious revivals happening any time soon. But then again, based on today's manufacturing techniques, and marketing practices, what could we really expect anyway? I think we're better off rescuing and collecting the "real thing" from our usual sources imo.
well lets face it.
if they did do a portable with the quality of a pc55 it wouldnt be for the price of a new lasonic.
i mean alot of people shredded the lasonic but it was cheap.
for the price it was a decent deal.
even a new kaboom is peanuts compared to what the original high quality boxes went for when new.
if you converted five hundred 1980 dollars into 2009 dollars. i am guessing it would ring in over the two thousand dollar mark.
i do think the window of opportunity for makers to cash in on eighties retro is now shutting.
peoples tastes change and are often driven by fashion and media hype over substance and quality.
i mean there is a growing number of people who just arent loving their earbuds anymore.
so that is a good thing.
right now it would appear there is less options for small portable quality listening devices than in a long time.
i mean i have heard some of these ipod docks in the stores and well was not impressed.
it would be nice to see jvc make a effort but i am betting this rumour is just a rumour.
I tend to disagree with cost assumtion. In the 70s and 80s electronics were very expensive but compared to now its cheap. (Example) When vcr first came out they were $1000 in the 80s but when dvd came out it was maybe $500

I agree with the advancements badbill, it's much cheaper to make similar electronics now compared to the 70's and 80's. Where I think they will fall short is the quality of the box, cheaper plastics, less or no metal, etc... The i931 is a good example of this although the price is fairly low so we shouldn't expect high quality.
Recreating a box of the PC-55 level will not be cheap. If they equal or exceed the quality I think we are looking at a box several times more expensive than the Lasonic i931.
who knows jvc has been selling there kabooms for awhile you never know if they come out with a nice m91
Whatever became of Muska's bbx project???
well something has become clear in the last few weeks.
it would appear the kaboom is not on jvcs north american site anymore.
in fact it would appear they are not selling boomboxes anymore.
hopefully something cool will be offered by them soon.
