New Lasonic i931 -- 2nd thread with pictures CEC comment

charlesdickens - 2008-01-23 17:25

Here's some good news! According to the 2008 Lasonic Product catalog (available on their website) the i931 will have a full function remote control! WOOOOOOO COOOOOL! Big Grin

jovie - 2008-01-23 18:29

Probably the IR type of remote.I wish manufacturers would go to standardized RF remotes so you don't have to be in the line of sight of a device. It's interesting how the I931 has an analog style tuning knob.If the tuning scale is real that's understandable of course. However, most probably it's frequencies will be digitally displayed in the lcd window.so what's with the rotary dial I wonder?I hope its not just glued in place for looks.

monolithic - 2008-01-23 19:08

There is no tuning knob... It's now a volume knob. Wink

jvc.floyd - 2008-01-23 19:20

i think it has a two way speaker system cause i can see the orange tweeters in one pic ,

Unfortunately Floyd that doesn't mean they are actually tweeters. Some companies have been known to put fake tweeters in their boxes. Frown

I'm hopefull though and like I've said before I will hold final judgement until I get my hands on the I931.

tpr - 2008-01-25 23:38

with price now

monolithic - 2008-01-26 04:19

That must be the official retail price so maybe it'll sell for $10-$30 cheaper on the streets which puts it at the $169 price Lasonic reps were talkin' about. Now, if they'd only give us an official release date...

jovie - 2008-01-26 06:07

I still wonder how they will handle the Ipod insert on the front.Perhaps all will come with the standard Ipod shaped piece whether you have that model or not. Then will you have to order an optional one if you have a different model of Ipod (?).The tuning knob actually functioning as a volume control doesn't bother me.In fact a large volume knob is kind of neat! Now if the tuning scale doesn't at least light up,that will take some getting used to.I mean it really should do something.By comparison that goes beyond being like a car with a fake hood scoop. That's like having the hood scoop merely painted on the car!It definitely does need something in that space though. If Lasonic comes out with another version,it would be great to see some sort of very long and rather large LED meter indicator in place of the (hopefully not fake) tuning markers. Now that would be cool!

monolithic - 2008-01-26 09:04

I think you forgot about the iPod adaptors that came with the Lasonic that was up for auction earlier this month:

I Agree about the volume knob... Bein' as tho that's the thing you're gonna reach for the most when you're fiddling with the i931, it should be the biggest knob on the box. Smart move, Lasonic! Cool

I'm afraid the tuning markers are just there for decoration. It would have been cool to have 'em light up whenever you tuned close to that station marker tho.

charlesdickens - 2008-01-26 14:48

I think what Jovie is talking about is the actual fascia, or the cutout window to see the ipod. A regular Ipod will look different than a mini nano or 3rd gen nano. The size and shape of the window would have to be different as well as the mounting location.

with my kids (so far), it's all about how impressive it looks & how big it sounds. Impressive looks can be either the elegance of Bose & B&O gear, or the outrageousness of stiff like this new Lasonic. Big sound? Nothing says cool like having to shout over the (undistorted) music & still not being heard... Smile

...still no news about sales outside the USA?

jovie - 2008-01-29 18:08

I wish Lasonic would make the I931 in different colors/color combos. Some may think it looks just right in black, but I would love to see it in some interesting colors. This would also entice collectors to have one of each.I think that the blue green color (aqua/turquoise?) that was popular in the 80s would look great with the chrome speaker guards, white woofers, and red tweeters on the I931.Manufacturers began making some of the mini/slimline boomers in the mid 80s in different colors. This practice has carried through to the current day.Though many of those are geared towards a more feminine or youthful market,I feel it could be done on the I931 without that connotation.Indeed many sports cars are made in unique colors and look no less powerful, forceful,or bold for it.So why not Lasonic?Lets see 10 different colors for this new blaster!

kittmaster - 2008-01-30 16:33

i didn't read all 6 pages....anyone know the release date? It always says out of stock..

charlesdickens - 2008-01-31 07:01

No one knows yet... Confused Soon I hope. Big Grin

tpr - 2008-01-31 07:18

jovie - 2008-01-31 16:30

Let's hope it is May and not May-be May

monolithic - 2008-01-31 16:37

I thought somebody said sometime in March.

jovie - 2008-01-31 16:43

For those who are unhappy with the sound preset feature, look in the second to bottom picture. It looks as though there is a Bass and Treble feature accessible from the "Menu" button. If it's like the two shelf systems I have,it should allow you to adjust a software version of old time tone controls. Smile Hooray!!! Smile

monolithic - 2008-02-16 06:42

Not as flexible as an equalizer, but I'll take it! Wink

pepino - 2008-02-16 10:11

so when is it going on sale

jt - 2008-02-18 16:27

I'll be passing on the Lasonic and go for Teac's version being discussed in this thread here:
TEAC MP3 BoomBox thread

tpr - 2008-02-18 16:42

and here.

dkd - 2008-02-26 10:46

Hey guys. First time post for me on this site. I just noticed that Lasonic has a "Buy it now" message on their site for the i931. The price has changed to $219. See it here at the bottom.
You can even add it to your cart and advance to checkout. Some pages still have "coming soon" on them though. Kinda strange. I'm tempted to click through and see if they're actually selling now.

tpr - 2008-02-26 10:58

Yes thanks a lot for the update and welcome to the board DKD!
....also the specs have changed!!!

dkd - 2008-02-26 11:01

*TPR* Could you clarify on the changed specs?

qouted by DKD:*TPR* Could you clarify on the changed specs?

Na ,this seems still to be a beta version....

Big Grin

tpr - 2008-02-26 11:20

also some optical changes?

dkd - 2008-02-26 13:02

Err... I think it might be for real. Lasonic's site now has been updated again. "Limited Offer Buy it now!" free shiping valid through 3/3/2008. Coming soon is gone too. Any takers?

dkd - 2008-02-26 13:19

I've got to admit that I ordered one soon after I posted a couple of hours ago. My order was pending for a while before I got confirmation. I guess good or bad I'll finally get to see what this thing is all about. It's weird.. I really want these things to take off in a big way again. I know it might sound odd but I kinda want to support Lasonic for dipping their toe in the water again. This might not be the product that we are all dreaming of but a minor success here could encourage greater risks in the future by other manufacturers. Oh and Btw, I don't really collect but somthing hit me recently. I'm just sick to death of small sound. I'm tired of earbuds and weenie radios. this led me to pull out my TC-999 and see if I could get it going again and I was lucky enough to stumble accross this sight. My mind is reeling from the amount of knowledge and knowhow here. Thanks for having me, I'll be around.

masterblaster84 - 2008-02-26 13:54

Welcome DKD!

You make a fine point. The success or failure of the I931 could set the stage for what other companies do or don't do. If Lasonic sells a lot of these boxes I would certainly expect a few other companies to test the water. We've seen Teac testing the waters already so this could be the time that makes or breaks any boombox resurgance. Smile

It will be interesting to watch no matter what happens.

tpr - 2008-02-26 14:51

goin` to close this thread - lasonic available now! Wink
