ever since i started collecting them everytime i get one there is someting wrong with them and they just freekin lie about everything. man this is pissing me off.......
jaredscottfla - 2009-08-21 17:13
that sucks ur having rotten luck. Most of the sellers on here are trustworthy, including ME,LOL!
Seriously though if u feel u are gettin' ripped off from overwhelmingly misleading descriptions on ebay, file claims with pp and report the sellers to ebay, after all what have u got to lose? At the best u may get your cash back at the worst u might get a crummy seller kicked off ebay, also 'outing' a bad seller in the crummy sellers thread would at least help in letting others know u had a bad exp why and avoid the seller in question,
in any case good luck in the future, and remember the ol attage CAVEAT EMPTOR.
Sorry to hear about your woes there. When I buy a box off the bay, I just expect there to be cassette playing issues since most are not re-belted or serviced. That way I'm not too disappointed. If I'm wrong then I'm pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, there are some sellers who are just trying to dump it off on anyone. Stick with sellers that have lots of positive transactions to their name, and ask lots of 'specific' questions about the item. That's about the best ebay advice I can offer you. Other than that, buy from established fellow boombox collectors. Best of luck brother
you need to find some one in your area to help you fix them up
i do tend to find 80% of ebayers are blody liars
and thats why when i pick up boxes at the carboot or dumps i can see what i'm getting and if it all working then i haven't paid too much
stay cool bro - B
don't let it get you down
put up some add's asking for them and see if you get lucky - put a sign up on the car ! you never know if you will score big time

thanks just a little fustrated... thanks
it will all work out....
I feel for you man. My experience is that 8 out of 10 boxes need work, have non working meters, dead channel or controls so dirty that it's practically unusable, broken antennas, antennas so long they stick out from the side after folding, broken cassettes, holes in the cases, cracks, won't work on batteries, failure to include power cords.... anyhow, you name it, I've seen it.
On the other hand, I disclose EVERYTHING, often to my detriment. Mostly, I just don't want to sell anything unless I've already repaired it to my satisfaction and put a commensurate price on it. If it sells, great. If it does not, then I'm keeping it.
Unfortunately, my experience with buyers is that they bypass the boxes with high prices that are advertised as refurbished, and head straight for the boxes that are cheap hoping that they'll get a great deal and everything working. Then it becomes a crapshoot.

Probably because there is no such thing as a fully working boombox.
These units are too old and can be lots of work to get them fully working again.
Part of collecting them is to fix them up.
Main thing is that no parts are missing as its hard to find knobs, doors, etc.
I guess they make it sound better than it is.
If you cannot fix em than you need to find a good tech guy to do this.

Well stated TransWave
Usually, you get what you pay for. When you buy from the members of this site - you might pay more, but you almost certainly will be a lot more satisfied. I almost gave up on buying from ebay - although I watch it every day
There is Stereo2Go where there is a high # uf trust worthy folks here, Like myself

ghetto.blaster - 2009-08-22 12:13
here is what the box looked like... there is nothing wrong with the box no serious crushing on it or anything that would make me think it was crushed or damaged... so it makes me believe the guy sent it to me damaged. and he said it will cost him about 125.00 to shippint in a safe manner.....
does this packing look like a 125.00 worth of packing?
and the radio was on top with buble wrap around the radio oon top.
ghetto.blaster - 2009-08-22 12:20
this is the picture he sent me... saying it all works fine.... not showing me the back and telling it was faded to yellow....
shady....
$125.00 will cost him to ship it and pack it real safe.....
he is full of s##t...
shady... like that guy sean....
Just so you know in the future, don't assume the back is fine, request pictures of every angle of the box. Trust me, if it were nice, they would have added a picture of the back from the start. Sometimes people don't ask questions as to not draw attention to the auction, but sometimes they wished they had asked.
ghetto.blaster - 2009-08-22 12:48
thaks so what do you think?
was he shady or i was damaged during shipping?
transwave5000 - 2009-08-22 12:58
The dog looks upset with the box too
I guess that was an "as is" box.
Nice Lasonic anyways.

muther f##### said it was nice i imagined better..
do you think he was shady.
i have to ask because i think i got robbed and lie to...
transwave5000 - 2009-08-22 14:46
Reminds me of
this thread.
But my ebay purchases were the same.
Got units that needed lots more repair than I expected.
But than I just wanted one of them models anyways and they were cheap in this case.

If your pics of the Lasonic laying inside the box are fresh. Then, your seller failed to protect he sides & corners when wrapping it in bubblw wrap & peanuts. One just has to 'cacoon' it in several layers of bubble wrap and lots of inexpensive styrofoam peanuts. Protect every angle & corner and add more for according heavier and fragile boxes.
I beleave the seller was shady for not having a pic of the back showing the discolred case, Also it looks like he's packing was also shady cause the box it came in looks fine but when u showed us the inside it looks cheap packing to me, I always commercial bubble wrap the boombox with atleast 4-5 rolls of bubble wrap and padding, And when I ship it I'm very confident that it will arrive safe. Is all about respect when I seel items on ebay I always pack like if the boombox is going to World War or street hockey before it gets to its destination
.
ghetto.blaster - 2009-08-22 15:12
thafuzz
the pic with the box in it with half wrapped bubble wrap was my atempt to show how it basicly look taking it out the box i didnt feel like bothering with putting the bubble wrap back on .(correction)i had one wrap around it...
llopez.... that guy was shady he new how he was sending it.. the box was not even badly damaged... and that is not a 125.00 shiping job...
ghetto.blaster - 2009-08-22 15:13

Absolutely..... for $125 he should have double boxed the radio, and used a lot more packing material to keep it safe. He owes you some kind of refund on this.
To be completely honest, I WOULD NOT have bid on ANY box where shipping is listed as $125. That is just ridiculous. I have bought and shipped on ebay for over 10 years and unless you are shipping something really oversize or super heavy, there simply is no excuse for that. If the item could be won for $1, I still wouldn't pay $125 for shipping just out of principle. If the shipping wasn't disclosed upfront, questions should have been asked beforehand. I am presuming based on your comments that you paid $125 just for the shipping?
Personally, I would not have been happy with the broken/split case. However, as to the faded back and the packaging, I got to tell you ghetto blaster -- what you are getting here really isn't all that uncommon. I've seen worst, much much worst. In many cases, I WISH that I got at least the foam peanuts you have in your box. This is not to say that the packaging here is fine. You got a damaged box so it's obviously not fine. I'm just saying that the experience you are having here is quite common and everyone here has been through that, many fold so if you have expectations of 9/10 good times in paradise then that probably isn't a realistic expectation.
If you want a better experience, buy ONLY from known sellers or sellers who specialize in electronics. A seller who has 50 listings and 49 of them are used clothing or books probably won't know how to properly package it. Just my 2 cents and my experience from over a decade of trading.
BTW, last week I received a box with no boombox inside. All I received was an empty box. Now, the seller is giving me an attitude about the insurance, none of which I had to go through if he had only packaged it right.
ghetto.blaster - 2009-08-22 20:38
thank you for your replies....
i didnt buy of of ebay i was just looking on line for boomboxes. and i ran into him... i bought the box thinking he perchased it a long time age he is am man of his 50 to 60s. i thought he was a man of his word. i thought (wrong) that if there where any issues he would say something.....
but as i realiz that he didnt tell me the back was faded yellow and didnt show a picture of it.(and i didnt even bother to ask being new to this)
so when i recieved it and can seel no damge on the box to do damage to the radio and the over priceing on the shipping...
that f####g old man know what he was doing!!!
but i cover my track some i pay trew paypal. so i place an dispute and i want full return on my money.....
i dont know what will happen next. but i took pics and we will see.
i didnt buy the box because i thought it was rear.i loked the old school look and if it was in mint condition i would be happy..
but i realized for being new to this.. that he new all along... he new he would get something in return because he put insurance through the posatl service to claim it as they damaged it....
shady..
ghetto blaster that seller is shady all the way, Make that dispute with Paypal, And I hope u get your money back so u can return his shady boombox
