Made my rounds at a SA...right as I rounded the corner headed towards the electronics, an employee tossed a darn nice looking sanyo into the trash bin.....I said, W-why did you toss that- he said the tape player did not work and store policy is to discard non working tape recorders. in the end he gave it to me...no the tape does not work, but radio is fine, nice bbx- model M9977.
Do all Salvation Army's do this ?

I know thta only some charity/ thrift stores in the UK are allowed to sell electrics
i guess if it's not fully working then it will go in the bin - they will no take into account
the fact that people collect them in a non working state, you may be able to ask them to save any thing and pop in once a week to see if they have any thing for you

VINTAGE SANYO BOOMBOX GHETTOBLASTER MODEL #9977
This vintage Sanyo made in Japan boombox is in great working condition. The overall condition it is good. Does have scratches. The radio has a fantastic sound. The cassette player working condition is unknown due to not having a cassette tape. The cassette door is removeable for headcleaning. The cassette mechanism seems to function when you press rewind it does spin. The original antenna is missing but the radio still works fine without it. All buttons and nobs work. Has heavy duty carry handle, 2 analog left and right power output gauges, a battery consumption gauge, 2 biult in condenser microphones, various ext. jacks, rca left and right line in, left and right line out, and left and right phono, mic in, external speaker left and right, 1/4 inch headphone jack, external fm and 300hm antenna hookup, tape select cro2 fecr are normal.
Vintage SANYO M9977 (M-9977, M 9977)BOOMBOX ghetto blaster
1978 Sanyo boombox stereo. RCA inputs for connecting an iPod or other mp3 player. tuning knob is missing (needs 1" diameter, with a 1" neck, flat one side) which should be easy to replace. Portable with folding handle. Loud and powerful. 18" x 11" x 4.5" in size (not including handle). Other than cassette deck, everything seems to work well. Clean battery compartment, with sticker inside with number 03101896. Stereo is marked: MADE IN JAPAN. Basically, this machine needs a belt, an antenna and a knob to make it an exceptional machine, all inexpensive and fairly easy to locate and replace. This stereo has been called the "little brother" to the M9990.

i was at a charity shop recently when a guy in there who knows me said hed got a big old national panasonic upstairs, one speaker, loads of buttons and extras on. i nearly shat myself with excitement. however he told me it had a cut cord. i told him so what, who cares cos i dont! he went off and asked the boss if i could buy it, and she said no. not their policy. it was being binned. i tried to explain the cord detaches on these anyway! still not allowed. i was furious!
i even said id go and get it out the bin! but was told the bin was in a sealed off area.
so, sadly its not always a happy ending.
ONE OF THE REASONS THAT CHARITY SHOPS WONT SELL ELECTRICAL ITEMS IS OF COURSE THE HEALTH AND SAFETY ASPECT BUT WHAT I FOUND A LOT OF THEM DO IS HAVE TO HAVE THEM ALL P.A.T. TESTED. THIS STANDS FOR PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTED ....THIS CHECKS THE UNITS EARTH LEAKAGE AND CONTINUITY....BUT THE THING IS THAT NEARLY ALL BOXES ARE WHAT WE CALL DOUBLE INSULATED WHICH MEANS THERE ARE NO EXPOSED METALIC PARTS THAT CAN BE TOUCHED BY HAND IN THE EVENT OF A LIVE WIRE COMING LOOSE INSIDE AND GIVING YOU A SHOCK
IT IS PROTECTED FROM BEING TOUCHED BY HE PLASTIC OUTER CASE. WHICH IS ALSO WHY YOU VERY RARELY SEE AN EARTH WIRE IN THE MAINS LEAD
..... MY LOCAL BARNARDOS AND OXFAM KEEPS THEM TILL THEY HAVE GOT 50 ITEMS, THEN THEY GET AN ELECTRICAL COMPANY TO PAT TEST THEM ALL AND THEN THEY CAN SELL THEM ON.....BECAUSE I AM AN ELECTRICIAN I JUST TELL THEM I WILL PAT TEST THE ITEM MYSELF WHEN I GET IT HOME AND USUALLY THEY LET ME HAVE IT....TRY THIS PEEPS. IT MAY WORK FOR YOU
