nice stuff guys!
2 steppa, how do you rate the 8190?is it like my 8290- makes a good racket but its short of bass.its almost like when you take the loudness button on and off theres no difference!

2steppa - 2009-11-25 05:21

Andy,

The 8190 is a solid, nicely designed box with a fair lineup of features, but I would agree that the bass is fairly light, partly due to the small speaker cones and partly due to the fact that the amp craps out quite early on in the volume setting. I also feel the power supply is lacking as the LED's start to dim with the beat, and in record mode (monitoring loudly) there's even less headroom of volume available due to the additional current being drawn. The loudness certainly makes a difference on mine - I always have it switched on just to get a semi-decent bass response. I really believe it's more the amp/psu section that is deficient as opposed to the speakers.

andyboombox - 2009-11-25 05:33

hey 2s
thanx for the comments about your 8190. theres no getting away from it that it doesnt half look good, the 81/8290, but the sound is something else. i also have the much smaller 8020 and believe it or not i actually preferr the bass on that to the 8290. needless to say these big hitachis are good units, just dont expect to be blown off your feet with the quality of sound.i guess thats just the bottom line.still, mines a keeper and sits proudly alongside my gf525 and my philips d8534.

The underrated TRK-9100 whips the 8190 on sheer clean loud sound. Again, not that bassy but solid sound and just seems to relish being cranked up.
