Both those sellers are FREAKIN' High Man!

See a lot of this type of thread observing 'high' prices.

IMHO...

Value is not just about money - a slice of the past, a personal experience, ahhh memories...Smile

Money is relative, £10 to me could feel like 10p to someone or £100 to someone else. If the 10p guy spends $1000 on a boom box then it's because he CAN afford it and I say good on him.

If he doesn't get the price - it's too high for the current pool of potential buyers who have access to the deal. No harm in asking though was there. The market will give the answer to the seller.

If it's too much for you personally - don't buy, there are always deals to be had for the patient and resourceful.

For these reasons, I can't look negatively on either a seller who asks for a tidy sum, or a buyer that is prepared to pay one.

but it has the oppersite affect on buyers/collectors, when they put higher and higher price's on them - other's see this and a: think this is the real price, b: every one trys it at this price putting boxes only in the hand of those with more money than sence, c: brings more people just looking to buy and sell them just for ebay,

each to there own Laugh Out Loud

On your points -

a) if someone buys, it is the real price. If they don't, price comes down until someone does - then that's the real price, simple economics. As for asking for a huge sum in the first place, let the free market decide.

b) supply and demand old bean, if the world was awash with them, they'd costs a lot less. Ebay, being the most accessible global marketplace, will link highest bidding buyer to whatever price they are prepared to pay - sense (or your perception of it) doesn't come into it. Unless you are saying only people without sense pay high prices, in which case I'd have to question that for the reasons stated in previous post.

c) where there is margin and opportunity, there will be someone looking to leverage it. Hey, we wanted a capitalist society right ?!!

I love a good discussion. Wink

And just like other markets, people (bbx collectors in this case) will find ways to get deals - much like yourself Bendy, as it looks like you are one of the resourceful ones I referred to earlier with your foraging and searching - good on you.

Smile

I think the problem here is that most people in general get irritated with individuals who use these tactics in order to get someone to "bite." Not just in boomboxes, but in all collectibles. Its simply because the prices are subjective and they try and take advantage of it. I for one find joy in watching some of these auctions relisted, and relisted, and relisted, well you get the point.

I agree with Alvin. Prices are high but usually get relisted until they hit REALITY.
