Hi guys, first post. I love collecting 80s, and to a lesser extent 90s boomboxes. Especially to clean up, make some mixes on, then either keep or resell.
Anyway, have you noticed the vast majority of 'boxes don't make the best recordings on normal bias/type 1 cassettes? Usually it's tolerable but is a little blurry (some don't handle type II that well either - the beats are distorted).
To this day, my favorite (a really rare one) is this Digital Sound Lab from 1989 that my dad bought and later gave to me, it lasted to 2001. Even though the sound was lower than average (I'd say dubs were about 60% as loud as the original - whereas most are almost the same), the quality was better. The beats were crisper and clearer... almost like you turned the treble up. Some GE ones record similarly I've noticed.
