Hi, I've had my GF-777Z for ages now, but I've always wondered what the 'W' is. The big badge on both grilles says 'W Double Cassette'. Please, what does the 'W' stand for?

Wild or Wicked comes to mind ...
i always believed the W meant "With" so as to say that it came with W-ith Double cassette when you bought it...
but wicked sounds cool...
Thanks for the suggestions.
It must mean something else though, mustn't it?
I'm pretty sure Sharp designated the letter to stand for "double cassette"
I dont think there is a Sharp with a single cassette that has the W on it. Most double cassettes have it though.
It's definitely the way they indicate double cassette decks. It perplexed me a bit until I realised the connection.
W
Double U
Double cassette.
The designers probably thought it was the shortest way of saying double outside of the numeral 2, it's an odd take on it, but the japanese have a wonderful penchant for re-interpretating (some would say misinterpreting) the english language.
Rock On.
Except that I still don't connect a U and a cassette. U. Cassette. U. Cassette.
Sorry, I must be missing something.
i think the theory that was mentioned maybe correct weather you look at it as U or V or however you may write to become a W that perhaps the W stands for double or twin cassette...if you look at the letter W in itself looks like it has twin letters put together like two Vees V + V = W...
That's just kooky Japanese marketing - like the "Wii".
They go with names/words that sound good or cute for their product in Japan. Unfortunately, that translation sometimes gets lost when that product is sold in foreign markets.
