THE QUESTION IS.... WHY? I DOUBTED THE HELIX WAS DEAD.. BUT... WHY??? HE COULD AT LEAST SOLD THE PARTS. AND IT LOOKS RADIOACTIVE LOL.

Hello there,,,,,,,,,thus this is someone's form of art. I myself own a (Clairtone 7980) and would 'neva eva' even think of this.....but to each their own.I mean they must have done this for some reason (ART)I Would hope this is. just my opinion.thanks for sharing STBNYC

no!!! it was to painfull for me to look at "all pics of the mod". That Helix is an icon and the guy turned it into Chernobyl's mutant. Just look at those carrying handles. Sometimes i'm making some mods to some crappy boxes, but all i want is to make a good (in my opinion) box from crappy one, or from the box with lots of damage. But again, if that "inventor" is happy with it.. Like Pioneer says - but to each their own. Some similar material:
http://www.shizaudio.ru/remont...ads-iboombox-perevodsorry, could not find english version.
What he did to that radio was no less than vandalism. It's sickening to see a great piece of original 1980's design and engineering ruined for some silly PC 'project'. As a collector of these boomboxes, it touches a nerve to see that he's chosen probably the most iconic boombox ever, to make a complete mockery of. Disgusting.

the HELIX was no longer working.. so they say but the parts
where are they? lol
WHY?
he could have done it to a less precious box...........i mean come on fella`s....this is one less grail for someones collection including mine...i would have paid good dough for that
Yeah, case modding is about putting personal computer parts in everything. I´m surprised no more boomboxes are used in this scene. I mean lets face it: For the young generation they are worthless but look cool. They don´t listen to tapes or to fm radio. For them its just a big box with cool 80´s design that looks better than a standard computer cases.
Even if this mod is really ugly with those handles and cheap lights, this guy put a lot effort into his "project" and i´m sure he´s sort of happy with his result. I bet he picked the helix because theres lots of space in that sucker and it looks mean. Who knows in what condition the radio was before he modded it? He writes it was nonworking and you can see the missing tape door. The fact that he knows about "Kid´N´Play" shows that he got some sentimental conection to this boombox but it was not more than a decoration item for him. Now its his computer - it could be worse I guess.
I dont wanna know how many "grails" are dumped every year just because people think they are junk.
Ugly!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats too bad.....
ouch.that helix is a decent box.......originally
but good effort though
thats not funny

You know, after going and reading his link and seeing all the work he put into that, I have a few thoughts...
He did do one hell of a job putting that all together and I don't know how powerful that computer must be to need all those F'n fans, but wow, he did allot of work.
It's kind of a shame that he did so much work and then F'd it all up with all the unneeded lighting and stupid color choice, but hey, to each their own.
But at that stage of the game, couldn't you just skip cutting up something that can not be replaced?
I really hate watching movies where they wreck an old Chevelle, Mustang or GTO. It sickens me in fact, I feel the same way about this.
