hello guys, heres my latest review
this is an early 90s black ghettoblaster made by the reputable jvc.
its looks are typically from the 90s-hard black plastic, gold colour lettering, almost rugby ball shape, and massive-this unit really is big-easily as big as a panasonic cobra if not bigger.it boasts of course a digital tuner,cd player housed on top with a push button release, twin cassette, and active hyper bass, meaning it has 2 conventional speakers but 2 ports firing out bass from the lower portion of the unit.unusual for a 90s machine it has bass and treble controls, and offers metal, chrome and normal for the tape.basically this thing is loaded.
the sound?this blaster is one hell of a top sounding unit.i have heard a cobra top (had one in 1995) and this runs that into the ground.it has clear, crisp sounds with as much bass as you could ever wish for.everything works precisely and with a quality that youd expect from jvc.its not got the cheesiness that other companies were offering at the time, such as x-bass buttons etc-the noise this thing produces comes natural to the machine, not turboe'd up or pressed by a stupid button on the unit.
one hell of an awesome, true ghettoblaster
scores
looks 8.5/10
sound quality 10/10
quality/build 10/10
and as usual guys no pics, but it doesnt take a picture to realise that this unit is the best 90s blaster made!
all comments welcome (excluding the camera digs)

Not really a camera dig
here's a pic from the interweb:
So, this one doesn't have an extra bass speaker tucked away inside there somewhere?
I think JVC badged the boomers with the extra woofer "Hyper-Bass Sound" & the ones with reflex ports (like this one) "Active Hyper-Bass".
I suspect that sound-wise it'll be on a par with the JVC RVB55 (the "Kaboom lite"), which is no slouch. In those 90s days, the evil tide of grim little eggs was well underway, but the major manufacturers (such as JVC, Sharp, Hitachi & Panasonic) still made a big boomer with good, loud sound, if you were prepared to pay. It's a pity so many of them looked so... well... eggy.
nice comments there, i42.i find, after owning super bass and hyper bass jvc's that the hyper bass sounds better.
but trust me when i say this baby has bags of power-and the bass and treble is awesome.never owned a kaboom, got a guy promising me one, not sure of the looks of them myself.although it has got the egg shape sadly,it makes up for that in every other area.

I know what you mean. When the internal bass speaker runs out of puff the sound falls apart spectacularly badly, all popping & farting noises - horrible.
However, if I'm careful with the EQ the bass is deep & clear.
This is my view over my monitor right now:
cant see it i42,
library limitations

sounds nasty. does that mean you can't see any pics posted to s2g via TinyPic? if so, that sucks.
I just took a snap of my JVC PC-V2... I think it's the very first CD boomer from JVC with "Hyper-Bass Sound" (it was the first one I ever saw & I lived in Dixons, Laskeys, etc.).
yeah, i42, tinypic is banned.so many good pictures im missing out on
Those early eggs did have good build quality and weighed quite a lot. And as we know from the JVC Hyper Bass Sound 'eggs' (RC-X510 and RC-X610) and the Panasonic 'Cobra' boxes, they can sound extremely good indeed. As you say though Paul, it's just a shame they look so 'eggy'.

It's a nice unit, but it cannot hang with the higher end Cobra Tops like the RX-DT75 or RX-DT707. Not even close.
The RC-X720 could give models like the RX-DT55 all they wanted in terms of sound quality. A nice, pretty rare model though, thanks for the review and pictures. I think one of these was recently up for grabs on Ebay.
cheers for the kind words panasonic fan-had no idea this baby is fairly rare-i only ever had a lower spec panasonic cobra top, brand new, when i was 18 or 19 or so, and all i know is the jvc absolutely whooped that.my mate dave has the panasonic cobra at work with the two speakers a side and mine appears to even beat that, but have never had the pleasure of hearing the top line cobra models.
i just love the jvc though-no, it doesnt share its looks with the square models of the m variety i know, but that sound!so deeeeep and fulfilling-and i love the way the volume button automatically turns itself up when you hit the button on the remote (tiny things please tiny minds
)
thanks again for the words, p.f
