Which box takes the most batteries?

fatboyrafe - 2010-02-13 12:25

I was listening to Fab Five Freddie's boombox interview on NPR's website again today, and he said that he remembers a box taking 20 batteries. I know he's probably exaggerating, but what is the most that a single box takes? the C-100 takes 10 d cells, which seems to be kind of standard for the biggest boxes.

The maximum number of D Cells that boomboxes take is usually 10, but I think I read that some "Carryin' Compo" units use about 12 batteries. Can anyone clarify this?

I had a shortwave radio/am radio, take 11 D's I knows it kind of un-related but that is still alotta of batteries.

Wow, that must have been one powerful beast! Did it have a cassette deck?

Nope, no cassette deck or anything, one single mono 6 inch speaker, a tone knob, a volume knob, and the ability to pick up all shortwave, am and, lw band radio. The farthest i ever picked up with it from here in Wisconsin usa, was over in the england area. It had a 6 foot antenna.

My Sony FH-7 in battery mode takes 12-D cells (18volts).
