I went to a charity auction today and got this JVC PC-11(on the rear it says both PC-R11JW and PC-11JW, the "R" in R11JW stand for receiver I believe). Won it for $10. Where does this model stand in the realm of sought after JVC units and what do you think it's value is?

After reading that, this dude's stock just tanked with me... He's no collector, he's only out to make money.

If you're offering it for sale, why not just post it in the for sale forum? Better yet, since money is what you're after, just throw it on Ebay, you'll get more for it there than anywhere else.

Believe me, I'm smart enough to know how to word things to make it sound like I'm a "true collector". I wasn't trying to fool anyone, but at the same time I am not just a reseller. I grew up in the 70s/80s and understand the passion you guys have and how you want to protect your baby(this board) from those you feel aren't as passionate as you. I am a hip hop head and actually was into making the music myself. OC's "Times Up" is one of my favorite tracks of all time if that gives you any indication of where my head and heart is at. I used to carry my box to school every Friday when I was in 8th grade. I'm not deep into it at all anymore because I don't have time in my life, but I know the culture.

This is one of the few places where you can go to find out about what you have. Since I don't want to offend anyone, can you guys tell me how to go about finding info and values on boxes when I come across them? Is there a vast online resource that people can refer to?

Bottom line...value is determined ultimately by the prospective buyer.

Not sure what the guys aims are,maybe he's just curious,just like when people come across a cheap piece of antiques at a cheap price,just curiosety makes them ask,even i have done this in the past with stuff that i did'nt know much about and did'nt normally collect..

As for the jvc pc11,i bought one years ago,its a good quality box,solid build,wood speaker cabs,clip off handle,soft touch cassette,super anrs ect..the only thing that let it down was the bass speakers,they are the only thing that made it sound average,the amp is very good quality..they have very simular bass as the DC33l,very stiff surrounds which stopped it giving a nice soft bass sound,the DC33 i had,i changed the bass for a set of nice reflex (easy to drive) bass,it made the world of difference,the bass it gave out after the speaker change was amaizing..to find out what it sounded like,just ask rimmer36,he ended up with the dc33..he will back me up on the sound improvement,he has more than one dc33,one with origonal bass,and the one i had with modded bass..

Further to the last..just read his first post,i dont think he was trying to make money off it because he told us what he paid for it,if he wanted to be greedy he would'nt have told us what he paid for it..because if he would have offered it up on here for a huge profit,everyone would have called him a greedy a money grabbing swine... i think he was genuin !

Guys... it seems some people are quick to jump on others for something they may or may not be and this is the kind of thing that makes people not post, thats why there are so many members and so few regular posters.. live and let live.. its a big enough playground for us all.

it's no big deal, but when it starts with "how much is this worth?" it's not about conversation or shared interest and more about being too lazy to find out what something may or may not be worth. it is pretty clear this isn't an appraisal site.

there are lots of ways to determine values besides stroking people for info based on fake camaraderie.

i am a kinda of a newbie here myself, but if all the members who don't post are afraid to post because they just want to ask "how much is this worth?" That's good.

yeah its like Gordon / meljack says,no big deal,he said he got it for $10,its clearly worth more than that,and if he does'nt want it,i'de say ebay is the right place to be if he wants to move it on..

thats a nice one-not really into 3pce boxes, prefer 1 piece, but yeah, its a jvc, so congrats.

The point I was trying to make was just not to be judgemental really, some people buy and sell on ebay, and some dont, some are traders who dont care about anything but money, but some are genuine collecters, and chasing a grail means you might have to sell a box for as much as you can to finance your addiction.

This may or may not be the case here, but is it our place to pass comment?

Personally it think that although traders raise prices, they also raise awareness, meaning that people dig boxes out of their attics and put them on ebay rather than let them rot, and you may well come across a forgotton box that would never have seen the light of day otherwise.. when I first came across ebay, there were so few boxes on there, that whaever was on there went for silly money anyway - at least now there are some bargains to be had with so many listings.

Most people on here know the golden rule on valuing - its impossible, if you ask my wife what my precious CAP10 in my avatar is worth, the answer is about 10p... to me, its worth twice what I paid for it, and I paid more for it second time round than it cost new when I was 15.

So we might know the rules, but lets not slap people down or accuse them of falseness based on very little actual evidence if they speak out of turn..

By the way, I have that JVC box, generously donated to me by a good mate, and I think it sounds pretty good, I'm pretty sure it has lead in it to weight it down though, cos its unbelieveably heavy!

I recall back in the day seeing this box at Sears it kicked ass, me and buddy placed a tape in it which he had on him and had the Sears Stereo department bumping, nice unit .

...all I can say is as a collector I have never once inquired nor care how much a boombox I have is worth. I collect for the music and the memories...value never plays a part to a true collector...only to a seller...

lol, yep......check his feedback he's sold a lot of other audio gear.......Professional flea-market reseller.

My question is, why even bother asking what the value is, just start the bidding at 99 cents and with all the boombox searchers on there it will climb up to what its value is. The whole "buy it now" thing isn't as lucrative as people think.
