sure is Rare Jens, remember we couldnt find it like 4 years ago? well thats my baby, and i am still looking for it. thanks for the pic.
Bought this around 1983 in Berkeley.
Here's a shot when I first took it out of storage after a decade not working.
This box inspired me to get a working CS 600.
My buddy DaveLC2 in N. Cali sent me the second one. It was in such good shape, I nearly cried! (OK, I wept like seeing an old friend for the first time in over a decade...)
I cleaned up the original, new belts and TLC, but left the Cramps sticker...
Now, I have two gorgeous 600's that sound sweet hooked together!
The Original
Big sister on top!
what a great ending. good for you Daiwa
long not see daiwa!
great double decker picture!!!
My first box was this Sanyo M9902-2.
Yes Jens, it has been too long.
Thanks, I do love that set-up with the 600's, such a warm sound especially on FM.
Thanks Drip. That little Sanyo looks bullet proof.
What ever happened to your original?
my first box was also a mono sanyo here's the actual pic i took back then like from 1980 to 1982...
My first radio-cassette was a Sharp mono GF????. Can't remember the model but it was a very basic one. My first STEREO proper boombox was the Pioneer SK-303 - a picture of one I found on Stereo 80's:
Nice rich sound, not the best high freq response I've ever heard but a good deep bass and rich midrange. Only 'tone' control but the bass was always OK to begin with, and due to the 'distant' sounding treble the tone was generally left on max all the time without ever sounding shrill or tinny. No dolby, tape type select, line in/out etc.. but did have music search and an exemplary tuner, especially the FM.
Hi Fam this is my first ever GhettoBlaster and is my most prized one in my collection. The Mona MS-2030 and have had this with me since i was a kid and am now pushin the 40 mark. i babied this Mona and as you can see from my pic it's like new after all these year's ..............PIONEER

that's interesting......these were very common & popular in the uk around 1978 - 1980 i remember them very well......curiously they had a stop/eject button as well as that strange tab on the tape door to pull it open manually! very basic but built like a tank & variable monitoring too, unusual on a mono portable then
Here's my first. bought it ne
w. Still love it!
Here's my first 3. The Hitachi TRK-6830H (L) was a birthday present in 1986, then I got the Sanyo (R) at a garage sale the next year and the JVC RC-363JW (C) the year after that. Then I took this awesome Polaroid of my entire collection.
ETA, still got the Hitachi and JVC but the volume pot was always bad on the Sanyo and eventually I ended up taking it apart. Don't know the model number of that one either.
Christmas present in the very early 80s. Tape was never completely reliable (I now know it was a simple pinch-roller spring issue), but I loved it to bits, took it to school whenever I could. The Hitachi mono that replaced it took less batteries & the tape worked, but wasn't nearly as good quality...
this is my fist few with my bikes....

Your first boombox is N/P RF-5210, a little brother of my first RF-5310, originally purchased in 1978, which I lost long time.
This is another
thanks to your countryman AZA which was found for me.
wow benjiman!
that tv 3piece is the EXACT copy of my matsui-your version looks a bit meatier though-the speakers, i mean!!!!
i think the speakers could have done with being slightly larger-and then this machine would have been fantastic-as it is it cant handle much power at all-is yours the same?
it sounds real nice but some of my bigger boxes (speaker wise that is) have much better sound, ect..they really needed bigger speakers for these guys though for sure..it's dated 1986 and a bro GAVE it to me just to be cool...
Hello
I get my first real boombox from my oncle to my 9th birthday back in 1979. He had his own business as a radio/tv dealer. The sound of this ITT (I still got this unit with all documents + demo tape for the HyperSonic sound) is unbelivable good. Low bass but great stage. ITT always called their top bboxes "Touring" ...
I felt so in love with this that I bought a few years later the new top bbox of ITT - the ITT Touring 220. Great looking bbox, but hasn't the sound quality of the 109. I payed 1983 649,- DM for this bbox (spended all my birthday- and christmas-money for this unit) ...
A few years ago I also bought the next step of the Touring-series. The biggest unit they ever build. But the sound was not my taste ... so I offered it at S2G ...
http://stereo2go.com/eve/forum...?r=64410079#64410079Best wishes
TOM
Found such ITT 109 on flea.
Really nice box.
It has also the "HyperSonic" sticker on the tapedoor.
Just taken a pic of the HYPERSONIC

Excuse me, moderator TPR, but does that fine-looking Philips/Magnavox D8614 tune shortwave and/or longwave? If so, does it come with a fine-tuning knob or fine-tuning thumbwheel
?

Is that white, low-slung unit a Sharp GF-9500 or a Sharp GF-8500? It has an atypical, full-view, exposed-top tuner thumbwheel (or whatever
folks call it). Does it tune shortwave and/or longwave?

Your National Panasonic mono'-layout tunes in two shortwave bands? Convenient, I'd say!
. Does it come with a fine-tuner
feature? Looks pretty clean, zx280! What month
and year did you score it in?

Benjiman, is the brand of the boombox in your avatar a Candle or a Helix? And what model? Looks a lot like a photo' of a Candle 'box I saw
on a nostalgia-tech' website -- good looks!

yes Easthelp, the d8614 comes with shortwave and longwave, am, and fm, it does,nt have a fine tuner though, but it does,nt need one
this machine could pick up a radio signal from the moon

My, my! ViennaSound, that 'box is looking pretty
good and clean for a portable stereo from the late Seventies
! hifitom says his uncle swung an ITT Touring Stereo 109 his way for his 9th birthday in 1979. Did YOU get your '109 the same year?
And speaking of the ITT: perhaps typical of German boomboxes, it's not the prettiest. Then again, how many WERE gorgeous in the boombox nascence of the mid- and late 1970s? More to the
point, the Touring Stereo 109 seems another example of the folks in Germany saving up all that (not inexpensive) quality for the solidity
and the sensible ergonomics the unit seems to come with. Good find, a good gift and good upkeep, fellows

And don't forget, Brigadier Vytas: your Aiwa TPR-950 (or "TPR-955"
) sports TWO shortwave
bands (from 2.3 MHz to 22 MHz) and your fine-looking box doesn't go after longwave (sub-500 KHz)transmissions, the way moderator TPR's unit
sets out to do
. But good work finding those
'boxes after all these years and good photos of
them you all post
This was my first G.B. which I was very proud of. Unfortunately, the cassette player was unreliable.
Mine was one of those yellow Sony water-resistant units with a "mega bass" button.
Better pic of the SOUNDMASTER
Never seen one again on flea or so.
Looks to be rare...
This is not my, but as the same model (by Brand CCE in Brazil, not Crown):
At the time, listened with external speakers (they sounded better at home).
My very first box was actually a Lloyds. But after 2 guys Mugged me for it, my next box was the Realistic SCR-2 that you see here in my AVI!!! Kind of looks like the Lloyds!!!
'NUFF SAID
This sad little thing that I still have:
It has taken up residence in the trunk of my car for quite a long time as a "just in case I need or want a radio and don't have another one with me" backup. It has seen better days but it still works.
There's no AC jack on it or cord, just 4 C cell batteries or a socket for a 6 volt wall wart.
It's really just a shoebox tape recorder with a radio that's not shaped like one, not really a "box" I guess.
It has one sort of strange thing that I have never seen on another radio: Dial markings for "travelers information station"
Some older boxes have that markers.
Also some with marking sliders, like on this PHILIPS
nice you keep this oldie!

My first boombox was a Sony CFS500 i really loved how the boombox looks simple and mean i liked it so much i got 2 becuase of that one boombox i started collecting
Don't have the box anymore, but do have the manual.
