im.out.of.hear - 2010-03-30 11:39
if i had the cash,i would buy the lot and get it shipped over in a big container and flood the uk with it all..that would be fun
billy.the.binman - 2010-03-30 12:04
bit of selective buying from jp, some value adding over here - sell on, you could probably make a nice little packet and get uk/eu bound collectors some nice boxes too
brigadier.vytas - 2010-03-30 12:53
why are they so cheap?

I'm going to Tokyo June 17th and staying Okinawa for 3 months. I'm going to buy as many of these boxes as I can and ship them home via freight! More to come on that!

Ah, the shipping... That's what you're really gonna kick out the BIG MONEY for.
In most circumstances, when all is said and done, you'll spend about the same amount of money getting boxes from Japan as you would if you bought 'em in The States.
To be honest tho, I don't care about shipping charges... As long as I have something the next man doesn't have, it's all good to me.

Yeah, I hear ya on that one. My wife is there for work and her belongings were shipped free. I was planning on buying many boxes and shipping it home in one pallet load or waiting till all our furniture gets shipped home and add it to that at no extra charge. But that's 18 months from now. We'll see.
I might have a fire sale when I get home!
Yeah... getting them from Japan now-a-days is not that hard, really not!
And if you send them via land (cheapest shipping)... comes out to be the price of the winning from Japan... it still will not be the prices you see in the US, CAN or Europe (without shipping)!
BUT!!!!! If we all start buying off of Yahoo Japan... prices will start climbing!!!!
The prices won't start climbing 'cause even tho some people talk a good game about wanting boxes from Yahoo Japan, they're too cheap to want to pay middlemen and EMS shipping charges for boxes they can't get in the States.
Personally, I don't get it... They'll pay $500 (shipping included) for a box in the U.S. from eBay but can't imagine, for example, spending $100 for a good conditioned, possibly fully working box they won on Yahoo Japan + $180 for EMS shipping from Japan + $50 (or less) for the middleman's fee.
To them, the shipping and middleman charges don't make the box the bargain they want it to be.
Yahoo Japan ain't for the weak... or the cheap!
Besides, the sellers themselves don't know about these middlemen buying their boxes and shipping them overseas to the actual "buyers", so they won't be asking for high prices from the jump.
What you really need to worry about is the potential eBay/Yahoo Japan merger.
That's what'll drive prices up.
I'm fortunate in the fact that I've already got most of the boxes I want from Yahoo Japan. If I wanted to, I could get an S90 and call it a day.

Not a question of aking for high prices... A question of more and more people bidding and the prices going up as normal bidding.

Almost 7 billion people in the world, 310,000,000 in the USA -where most of the world's money is...
Take, just an exaple: 0.01% of the people in the US that want to start bidding (after their fright goes away, for they see that others are getting Bboxes for "Cheap" from Japan).
Only 0.01% from America = (if my math is good) 31000 people that would start bidding from yahoo Japan.
This is not counting the rest of the world wanting to start bidding after their "Fight and Cheapnest" goes away... after a few months or more (give or take)prices go up.
Look at us, you and me, I was ready to bid good money on the RX 5350... REALY good money (if I did not have mine already). I was only going for that 5350, from Yahoo Japan, for its original parts, which I needed for mine).
If you had not asked me to let you go for it, if I had decided that, "Screw him! I want that one for the knobs!"... which was the truth (I had a good $500 US put aside just for the bidding).
So you see, with just 2 of us it could have started to go high.
Per bad luck I had lost my job at that moment, so I did not try hard and said yes to you. And right I am taking it easy bidding side... Need to eat and the other basic stuff.
You see, you saying that people are too afraid and cheap... That is just for now, give it time, for we are like sheep: Our friend or neighbour get things that we want (don't really need, but want)... we start to venture into the unknown until it becomes habbit and voila... Prices WILL go up.
The less WE talk about this middle man bidding for us, the less people will want to venture. I remember a few moths back where you showed off about getting all these radios from Japan. I was thinking to myself, "If he continues, more and more members will get curious, little by little, and sart this 'Venture".
Well, it is too late now, they are starting to be more and more that are slapping themselves on the face say "Lets try!"
Like you, though, I got most of the ones I want from Japan.

I wasn't the first person here to get boxes from Yahoo Japan... and I damn sure won't be the last.
Competition for boxes doesn't concern me NOW and didn't concern me BEFORE I hooked up with my Yahoo Japan connection.
As with eBay, you win some, you lose some, but with luck, there'll another box just like it posted for auction soon after... Besides, nobody's stupid enough to look at some of the boxes I've posted and think I've gotten 'em from eBay.
If there are people out there who REALLY want those boxes from Japan, they'll figure out a way to get 'em. Honestly, I hope they step forward and speak up so I can know who my competition is and how to deal with 'em.
Perhaps you're more concerned with other people being able to get the boxes that you have or want. I used to think that way 'cause my main goal when collecting anything is to have what the next man doesn't have and hopefully can't get, yet he wants what I have.
But now, I could care less about such selfishness 'cause at the end of the day, there's nothing special about my collection... There's a Boomboxery or stereo2go member who already has whatever box I have or any box I plan on getting in the future. It doesn't make me happy knowing that, but that's reality, I can't do anything about that. As for you, if you think you're gonna have Yahoo Japan all to yourself,... FOREVER,... you must be smoking something.
Like I said before, you should worry about the possible eBay and Yahoo Japan merger. If and when those 2 get together, almost anybody from the U.S. or elsewhere will be able to bid directly from Japan sellers without a middleman, keeping in mind if those sellers want to ship boxes internationally or not. But again, competition doesn't bother me... If anything, competition separates the pretenders from the contenders.

No, no... really do not want Yahoo Japan for myself...
It was just to point out that the prices have a high possibility of going up with time.
I even offered, to a few members here, that I bid for them on Yahoo Japan... and I do. They just do not want to bother with the opening of the middleman account.. or what ever. It passes time for me and make some happy.

If the prices go up, they go up... Will a high price really stop you from wanting the box you REALLY want - especially if you can't get that box anywhere else?

Unless you're NOT charging a fee to buy boxes for those members, doesn't that make you a "middleman"?
If that's the case, what's the difference between you and an actual middleman? If the person you're getting the box from doesn't allow for shipping to anybody but you, you've got to ship the box to the actual buyer - at YOUR expense,... or is it THEIR expense?
Either way, they gotta pay somebody else to get what they want.

Oh yeah, me... I took nothing. It is/was for the simple pleasure of the bid and seeing how it all worked out and made the "New Owner" happy...
But, yeah... they still end up paying a middleman no matter what... AND, for those who sent me money via PayPal... The PayPal fees as well was added to the win!!!!!!!!
So, guys... get a middleman from Japan!!!!!!
Oh, and with the person I got in Japan... He sends the win straight to the New Owner's address.
Isn't FM in a different bad there?
Older Japanese market boxes only go up to 90 MHz on the FM tuning dial, while newer models go all the way to 108 MHz, just like in the U.S..
That said, if you're a big FM radio listener, be careful which box you choose to buy.

Hi guys,
Thanks gettoman for your help and the links.
I am looking for a gf1000 in good full working order. Will anyone here be willing to help me with arranging a middle man for yahoo japan??
Or info on how to do so?
Or even have any other avenues?
Many thanks,
Nev

chichi, you may be able to consider a different box like a GF777,J1 Superjumbo (check monolithics avatar) these are Huggge, and look just as nice !!! even bigger is the Jc2000,slightly smaller is a lasonic 975,Or a Qualitly box like Jvc M90,or Conion C100F
All these boxes make as good of as an impact as the 1000..its worth a thought, just expand your requirements a bit,you may be more successfull and get what you want alot sooner
You can always look for a 1000 as you go along..
Yes... All is possible.
Gettoman speaks wisely1 But...
I have bought a good few Boomboxes from Japan for members here.
I take NO fees at all, for I do this for the fun of bidding and makeing a collector happy.
If you like to ask around first (this would be with older members) please do.
If you want that GF 1000, if you got the money put aside for it... you could have a GF 1000 in about a week or less (or it could be 2 to 3 months if you go for gound shipping).
Just let me know, I will be happy to help you out!
Later,
Bredgeo
